8:49 p.m. Friday — Jason J. Pineda, 27, was arrested after he allegedly assaulted another man during a domestic dispute at their apartment on the 400 block of North Washington Street.
Police went to the home after a neighbor called to report a disturbance on the second floor that included the sound of a window breaking and a “loud bang,” according to court documents.
Police said Pineda, who was intoxicated, had blood on his face and around his mouth. He said he had an argument with his boyfriend, documents said. Police could hear a man moaning inside the apartment.
The defendant initially refused to let officers in, claiming they needed a warrant. Once inside Police found the victim, 40-year-old William Matos, who also appeared intoxicated.
Matos was bleeding from a finger on his left hand. He also had cuts and bruises on his back and neck. Police also noticed holes in the wall and several pieces of overturned furniture
Matos claimed Pineda charged at him with a knife after the two of them got into an argument. Pineda blamed Matos for instigating the physical altercation. But he eventually told police “just take (me) to jail,” according to a police report.
A search turned up a small bag of suspected marijuana in the Pineda’s pocket.
Pineda was arraigned on charges of simple assault and possession of a small amount of marijuana, He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail following arraignment.
1:24 p.m. Friday — A family dog bit a 3-year-old boy at a home on Franklin Street. Police described the bite as a “superficial wound.”
A 22-year-old woman at the house later took the boy to Butler Memorial Hospital. Her relationship to the child was not indicated in a police report.
Police said they notified the state dog officer, who advised the woman to place the dog in quarantine for 10 days in accordance with Pennsylvania law.

Monday — Ralph Mariotti, 56, of Butler was charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash earlier this month on Whitestown Road near South Duffy Road.
Police said the collision happened about 6:55 p.m. Oct. 6 as the other driver, Rachel Marburger, 42, of Renfrew, was pulling out of the Good Guyz Mini Mart. Mariotti drove away after the wreck.
In addition to hit-and-run, Mariotti is charged with failing to stop and give information or render aid after an accident, and careless driving.
Monday — Police cited two female students with disorderly conduct stemming from an altercation on Sept. 26 at the Butler Intermediate High School.
4:26 p.m. Friday — One person was hurt when a vehicle driven by Edmond Mohan, 68, of Cabot turned in front of a tractor-trailer at Route 422 and Greenwood Drive. Mohan’s passenger, Linda Mohan, 67, of Cabot, suffered a minor injury.
2:38 p.m. Friday — A man and woman were caught allegedly taking $203.69 in merchandise from the Butler Commons’ Walmart.
The suspected shoplifters — Brandon M. Carter, 35, and Andrea Lee Carter, 25, both of Butler — are charged with retail theft, conspiracy to commit retail theft, disorderly conduct, and possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Both defendants were later arraigned and placed in the Butler County Prison on $7,500 bail each.
Thursday — Melissa K. Harmon-Davis, 33, of Butler was stopped allegedly shoplifting merchandise valued at $257.12 at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. She is charged with retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Thursday — Police obtained an arrest warrant for Maxwell J. Bowers, 26, who has no known address, stemming from a case of domestic violence in Summit Township. He is accused of assaulting Ashley Ann Young about 1 p.m. Oct. 16 at her home on the 100 block of Moran Road.
Young told police that Bowers pulled her by the hair to the floor, according to court documents. She recounted that when she tried to leave with the couple’s two children, the defendant removed the key from the ignition of her vehicle.
The suspect also damaged the victim’s cell phone so she could not call for help, documents said. Additionally, he is accused of damaging her Apple iPad during the altercation.
Police noted that Young had a protection from abuse order against Bowers at the time, which barred him from her home. Troopers later tried to contact the defendant but to no avail.
He is charged with simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct.
[naviga:h3]State Police, New Castle[/naviga:h3]
7:58 p.m. Sunday — No one was apparently injured in a hit-and-run crash in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County.
The wreck happened when an unidentified vehicle traveling west on Route 422 crossed into the opposing lane and sideswiped an eastbound car. The unknown driver of the westbound vehicle did not stop.
The other driver, Nirav M. Patel, 34, of Bridgeville, Allegheny County, pulled off the road. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call police at 274-598-2211.
