John W. "Jack" Carlson, 77, of Clearfield, formerly of Eau Claire, died Wednesday morning at Ridgeview Elder Care in Curwensville after an illness.

Born in Boyers, Sept. 4, 1930, he was the son of Clayton and Edna Zimmerman Carlson.

He was a longtime member of the Bethel United Methodist Church of Eau Claire.

Mr. Carlson, a 1948 graduate of the former Eau Claire High School, was an honorably discharged veteran of the Army and served from February 1952 to February 1954.

He retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as transportation construction manager III.

He was a former member of the VFW, the American Legion and the Elks.

Surviving are a daughter, Julie Carlson Kennedy and her husband, Daniel, of Clearfield; two sons, Brian J. Carlson and his wife, Melodie, of Washington Courthouse, Ohio, and Wayne Carlson of Sligo; nine grandchildren; a brother, James "Jim" Carlson of Kennerdell; and number of nieces and nephews.

His wife, Muriel Miller Carlson, whom he married April 15, 1955, died April 25, 1987. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Funfer Golden, and a brother, Duard Carlson.
