Butler issued winter weather advisory

The National Weather Service of Pittsburgh has issued a winter weather advisory for Butler and surrounding counties from 6 p.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Friday.

The statement said three inches of snow and sleet is possible and a quarter-inch of ice could cause slippery road conditions.

According to its forecast, there are slight chances of snow showers before 11 a.m. Thursday with chances of rain and snow showers after 5 p.m.

The forecast expects cloudy conditions with high temperatures around 36, and there will be little to no snow accumulation throughout the day, but later in the evening, the forecast shifts to rain showers, snow showers, freezing rain and sleet.

The forecast said the wintry mix will continue until about 1 a.m., then shift primarily to freezing rain mixed with rain between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m.

According to the forecast, the sleet could be heavy at times, and low temperatures of around 28 are expected through night and early morning.

PennDOT announced implementation of tier one speed and vehicle restriction plans for 10 p.m. Thursday. This discourages tractors without trailers, motorcycles, towing trailers and motorhomes from traveling on affected roadways.
