Woman injured, hospitalized in two-car crash on Route 8 in Butler Township
BUTLER TWP — A woman was taken to a local hospital after sustaining injuries in a two-car crash near the intersection of Pittsburgh and Vogel roads in Butler Township.
The crash, which was first reported over Butler County Emergency Services dispatch shortly after 5:30 p.m., involved a red compact car which sustained heavy front-end damage and a blue pickup truck which was seen with all of its air bags deployed inside.
According to Paul Kuss, patrolman for the Butler Township Police Department, the crash occurred when the red car ran a red light near the Sheetz on Pittsburgh Road and slammed into the blue pickup.
“It was a T-bone,” Kuss said. “The red car ran a red light, hitting the blue pickup in the left hand turn lane. The driver of the red car went to a hospital.”
The nature and seriousness of the woman’s injuries was not known as of Sunday evening. The number of occupants of the two cars and their medical status was also unknown at the time.
A LifeFlight helicopter was put on standby, although it is unknown whether one was ultimately used.
In addition to Butler Township police, Penn Township police and Butler Ambulance Service responded.
The crash scene was cleared by 6:30 p.m.
