A teenage girl was pulled from a burning house Wednesday morning, April 8, in Butler after being trapped in an upstairs bedroom, according to Butler County Emergency Services.

The girl called 911 and fell unconscious by the time help arrived to 500 Center Ave., said Capt. Tim Iman of Butler Bureau of Fire. She was taken by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital.

A firefighter carried the unconscious girl over their shoulder down a ladder from a second-story bedroom window.

The fire was reported at 9:25 a.m., Iman said. Crews were on scene within four minutes and extricated the girl within 10. The fire was out about 20 minutes later, Iman said, but crews remained at the property for more than three hours.

Iman said the 911 center was able to give directions to her exact location in the home. She was first taken by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital before being flown to Pittsburgh.

“Crews worked very quickly and efficiently, and (it was) the best possible outcome that we could have had,” Iman said.

No update on the girl’s condition was available Wednesday afternoon.

The girl’s mother and a dog also lived in the home, Iman said. The dog was found at the top of the basement stairs and taken by a neighbor.

The neighbor said a cat also lived in the home, but Iman said there was no sign of it.

Iman said the fire was heaviest in the back of the home, which is likely a total loss. A state police fire marshal is investigating the cause.

Butler Township Volunteer Fire District, Penn Township Volunteer Fire Company, VA Butler Fire and Emergency Services, Butler Ambulance Service and Butler police also responded.
