BUTLER TWP — Around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, June 17, traffic came to a near standstill on Route 8 after a truck carrying logs overturned near Bon Aire Plaza in Butler Township.

Two people were taken to the hospital and the log truck driver reportedly experienced a head injury. Reports to Butler County Emergency Services dispatch indicate there was a fuel leak.

Traffic quickly closed at the intersection of Evans Road and Route 8 as Butler Township police, Butler Fire District and other emergency responders arrived at the scene. Southbound traffic was directed onto each end of Evans Road while northbound traffic was directed onto Route 422 eastbound.

Traffic was unable to access Route 422 westbound from either direction during the closure.

Logs covered the road by the entrance to Bon Aire Plaza and Armstrong’s corporate office. Onlookers watched crews work to clean the debris for several hours until traffic reopened Wednesday afternoon.
