One person has died following a multivehicle crash along Oneida Valley road near its intersection with Woods Road in Venango Township.

An update on the crash, issued by state police late Friday night, indicated the driver of a vehicle traveling northbound crossed into the southbound lane on Route 38 at about 5:22 p.m. The driver died at the scene of the crash while the vehicle’s passenger was taken to a local hospital via ambulance.

Police said the crash involved three other vehicles in total.

Police said the northbound vehicle veered into the southbound lane for unknown reasons where it struck two vehicles traveling southbound. One was towing a unit behind it, and the northbound vehicle struck that unit, too.

At this point, the northbound vehicle began to spin, and debris from the crash struck another vehicle, police said.

Reports made to dispatch indicated one of the vehicles could have been a flatbed truck.

Police said both the driver, who died at the scene, and the passenger, who was taken to the hospital, were extricated from the vehicle.

The operators and passengers of the second and third vehicles were evaluated but turned down further treatment, police said. Those in the fourth vehicle were not injured.

All the vehicles, except the one struck with debris, were towed from the scene.

According to a dispatcher, two medical helicopters were requested to the scene, but both were canceled.

In addition to state police, Superior Ambulance, Emlenton Area Ambulance Service, Emlenton Volunteer Fire Department, Eau Claire Volunteer Fire Department and North Washington Volunteer Fire Department all assisted in the emergency response.
