Tuesday — Philip C. Martino Jr., 36, of Butler, was arrested for felony shoplifting stemming from an incident in August at the Walmart at Butler Commons.

According to a police report, Martino on Aug. 16 tried to walk out of the store with merchandise hidden in his clothing. He was arraigned on a felony count of retail theft and a summary charge of defiant trespass, and later released on his own recognizance.

Police on Monday in an unrelated case cited Martino and Emily N. Sopel, 34, of Butler, with defiant trespass for being in the Walmart on Sept. 20. Both defendants had previously been barred from the store.

Monday — Two women and a man, all of Butler, were charged in connection with a domestic-related altercation about 8:40 p.m. Sept. 26 at the parking lot of Firehouse Subs at the Butler Crossing shopping plaza.

Kathryn L. Lane, 26, Mariah G. Rudish, 25, and Curtis M. Maciel, 28, are all charged with disorderly conduct. Police also cited Lane and Rudish for harassment.

11:20 a.m. Friday — A 17-year-old student was found with suspected marijuana and other drug contraband at Butler Senior High School. The teen is charged in Butler County juvenile court with misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Thursday — Jennifer D. Gulu, 38, of East Butler, was arraigned on a felony charge of retail theft in connection with Sept. 12 shoplifting incident at the Butler Commons’ Walmart.

Gulu is accused of tearing open a women’s razor set and placing it in her purse. In all, according to court documents, she is suspected of walking past the cash registers without paying for eight items with a total value of $46.53.

The defendant, who has three prior shoplifting convictions, was released on her own recognizance following arraignment.

11:02 a.m. Sept. 27 — Jennifer L. Sherman, 43, of Karns City, was caught allegedly shoplifting $261.94 in household goods and grocery items at the Butler Commons’ Walmart.

Police said they asked the defendant why she removed the merchandise. “Sherman advised,” according to court documents, “she has read about people stealing and decided to try it.” She also admitted “it was stupid and times are rough,” police said.

Sherman was charged with misdemeanor retail theft.

Sept. 25 — Sarah R. Post, 41, of Butler, was arraigned on a charge of felony retail theft stemming from a shoplifting incident with another woman earlier this month at the Butler Commons’ Walmart.

Police said Post and Colleen M. Baptiste, 32, of Sarver were caught Sept. 14 failing to scan a bottle of pop and a camp light, valued at combined $5.28, at the self-checkout register, according to court documents.

Post, who has three prior shoplifting convictions, was arraigned for felony retail theft and later released on her own recognizance.

Baptiste, who has one prior shoplifting conviction, is charged with misdemeanor retail theft.

1:38 a.m. Saturday — Nicholas W. Pipher, 25, of Butler, was arrested for felony drug possession after he was allegedly caught with more than 2 ounces of suspected marijuana in a sport utility vehicle in Butler.

Police said Pipher was a passenger in SUV that police stopped on West Penn Street. A search of the vehicle, according to court documents, turned up a book bag that contained two Ziploc bags of marijuana and a cellophane-wrapped pack of marijuana.

The suspected marijuana, in all, weighed about 60 grams, or about 2.1 ounces.

Also in the book bag, police said, were three pills for which the defendant did not have a prescription, and an illegal Taser. The defendant told police that the bag and its contents belonged to him.

Pipher was arraigned on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and possession of a prohibited offensive weapon. He remains free on $2,500 bail.

Thursday — Deborah S. Walker, 66, of Renfrew, was charged with being more than twice the legal limit for alcohol following a July traffic stop in Butler Township. Police said they stopped her about 10:35 p.m. July 21 after her sport utility vehicle crossed the fog line and center line on Route 68 three times.

She failed one field sobriety test but told police that she could not continue because of back and knee problems, court documents said. A breath test later showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.188 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

In addition to driving under the influence, Walker is charged with disobeying traffic control devices and three counts of disregarding traffic lanes.

Thursday — Police charged a Pittsburgh woman with drunken driving stemming from a traffic stop earlier in the month in Butler Township.

The suspect, Autumn L. Martin, 42, was pulled over about 2:30 a.m. Sept. 16, according to court documents, after police initially saw her car remained stopped at a flashing red light at Route 68 and New Castle Road for a period of time despite no traffic.

She was arrested after failing field sobriety testing and taken for a breath test, which showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.133 percent.

Martin is charged with DUI, disregarding a flashing red light, improperly stopping a vehicle on a road and careless driving.

Sept. 27 — A Mercer County man was charged with driving on drugs in connection with a traffic stop for speeding in Muddy Creek Township. Police said they clocked Antonio D. Gibson, 33, of Farrell, going 75 mph in a 55 mph zone on Route 422 east near the South Shore on-ramp.

Before pulling Gibson over, according to court documents, police said his car was weaving in his lane, and he changed lanes twice without signaling.

Police said when they got to the defendant’s vehicle, they found a 2-year-old girl, who Gibson identified as his girlfriend’s daughter. Police said they also smelled marijuana coming from the car.

Additionally, Gibson is accused of giving a bogus name to police.

He was arrested after failing field sobriety tests and taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology reports showed he had alprazolam, oxycodone and oxymorphone in his system, documents said.

Gibson is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, child endangerment, false identification to law enforcement authorities, speeding, driving with a suspended license, disregarding traffic lanes, careless driving and littering on a highway.
