Police said Kern suffered an apparent overdose about 10:35 p.m. Sept. 9. Medical crews administered the opioid antidote to revive him, according to court documents. But moments after police learned he was wanted on a warrant, he tried to jump out of a bedroom window.

An officer stopped Kern but not without the aid of city firefighters. The defendant, who damaged a window screen in the incident, was arrested and placed in the Butler County Prison on the warrant.

In exchange for his guilty plea, prosecutors withdrew charges of resisting arrest, and criminal mischief. Kern was ordered to pay $312 in restitution, fines and court costs. He remains in the prison for the state parole warrant.

Wednesday — An Ohio man was charged with stealing seven flat-screen televisions, valued at a combined $1,700, from six recreational vehicles at the Butler RV Center on Route 8.

William E. Jenkins Jr., 49, of North Canton is charged with misdemeanor counts of theft, receiving stolen property and possessing instruments of crime.

Police said Jenkins on Jan. 29 used a master key to enter the vehicles, which were being serviced at the time. He confessed to the theft, according to a police report.

Authorities said that during the investigation, police discovered two other similar thefts in Allegheny Township and Murrysville, both in Westmoreland County. He is already charged in those cases.

Jenkins has been in the Westmoreland County Jail on $50,000 bail since Aug. 7 following his arrest for stealing TVs from vehicles earlier this year at RV sales lots in Allegheny Township and Murrysville.

According to investigators in Westmoreland County, the defendant once worked for an RV company in Ohio and kept the master key, which he allegedly used to access the vehicles in Western Pennsylvania.

9:25 p.m. Tuesday — John Cyprian, 51, of Butler was hurt when he wrecked his motorcycle while trying to avoid a car that pulled in front of him on Route 8 south.

Police said Cyprian was traveling south when a northbound car driven by Matthew A. Young, 29, of Worthington, Armstrong County, made a left turn into the Burger King restaurant. Cyprian swerved out of the way of the car but he laid down his cycle.

He was not wearing a helmet and suffered unknown injuries. He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital. His condition was not immediately available.

Police cited Young for making an improper left turn.

4:38 p.m. Tuesday — Vehicles driven by Karla S. Ansani, 67, and Dexter Keibler, 42, both of Butler collided on Roe Avenue. No one was injured but both vehicles had to be towed. Police cited Ansani for failing to yield the right of way.

Sept. 21 — Police charged a Pittsburgh man with drugged driving in connection with a traffic stop this month on Morrow Way. The defendant, Boyd Matthew Bestic, 20, was stopped about 1:15 a.m. Sept. 3 for driving with a burned out headlight.

An officer smelled marijuana coming from the car and later found him with suspected marijuana and a marijuana pipe, according to court documents. Bestic admitted he had smoked the drug earlier that night.

A search of the car turned up an additional bag of suspected marijuana stems, police said, and more contraband.

Additionally, three of the defendant’s passengers, all minors, were found to be under the influence of alcohol and a fourth passenger had suspected marijuana and related paraphernalia.

Bestic was taken to Grove City Medical Center for a blood test, which subsequently confirmed he had marijuana in his system, documents said.

Sept. 21 — A Westmoreland County teenager was charged with driving under the influence stemming from a three-vehicle wreck earlier this month in Slippery Rock Township. Police said the defendant, Kerry M. Fagan, 18, of Greensburg caused the crash about 7:20 p.m. Sept. 7 at Branchton and Harmony roads.

Fagan, who suffered apparent injuries, said she had consumed “a few” drinks of alcohol that night, according to court documents. An ambulance took her to Butler Memorial Hospital.

After she was released, police took her to the barracks for a breath test, which showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.03 percent. The level was below the state’s 0.08 percent legal limit for drivers 21 and older. But since she is under 21, Fagan is charged with DUI by a minor, underage drinking, disobeying traffic control devices, careless driving and unsafely moving a vehicle.

Documents did not indicate why it took police so long to charge Hilliard.

Police said Pyle was caught about 3:50 p.m. Aug. 14 trying to steal three shirts and a hat at the Boscov’s store. The merchandise was valued at $103.

While searching the defendant, according to court documents, police found seven stamp bags of suspected heroin in his left shoe. He also had two syringes and a metal spoon in his pants pocket.

Pyle is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and retail theft.
