Tuesday — Quintin M. Copple, 38, of Brady Township was charged with having drug contraband stemming from an August incident at a store parking lot on the 400 block of West Jefferson Street.
Police said a patrol officer, suspecting a possible drug deal, went to a car outside the A-Plus store. Copple, a passenger in the vehicle, was removed from the vehicle. Afterward, according to court documents, police noticed a loaded syringe between the door and Copple’s seat.
Couple is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
[naviga:h3]Butler Twp Police[/naviga:h3]
6:52 p.m. Wednesday — Two Butler teenagers were caught allegedly shoplifting perfume and body spray at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. The merchandise totaled $129.49.
The suspects, Tyrone L. Hinchberger, 19, and Melea R. Barlow, 19, were both cited for retail theft.
Monday — Police charged Adam J. Snow, 19, of Butler Township in connection with a hit-and-run accident last month at Moraine Pointe Plaza. He is accused of sideswiping the Taco Bell building shortly before midnight Aug. 16 after picking up food from the restaurant’s drive-through window.
The manager provided police with the license plate number of the pickup truck that hit the building, which sustained damage in the accident
Police found Snow and the truck at this home. He admitted he hit the Taco Bell building with the truck. But when asked, he couldn’t say why he didn’t stop, documents said.
He is charged with hit-and-run, failing to stop and give information after an accident and reckless driving.
Sept. 8 — Gregory D. Beer, 47, of Center Township was charged with bouncing a check for $1,000 in July at Butler Pre-Owned Auto Sales on Route 8 south. The check, issued July 17, was written on an account with insufficient funds, police said.
The business sent the defendant a certified letter seeking reimbursement but he did not respond, according to court documents.
Beer is charged with a misdemeanor count of bad checks.
[naviga:h3]Penn Twp Police[/naviga:h3]
9:38 p.m. Sept. 3 — Peter F. Moran, 56, of Pittsburgh was arrested for drunken driving after police got a call for a reckless driver on Route 8 near Conley Resort. The driver’s minivan, the caller reported, had struck a guardrail.
Police later stopped Moran after they saw his van weaving on Route 8 near Sandy Hill Road. The van had the same license plate number as the one given by the caller, court documents said. It also had fresh damage on its passenger side and the right front tire was flat.
The defendant appeared to be impaired and he subsequently failed field sobriety tests. He was taken to UPMC Passavant Cranberry for a blood test. But once at the hospital, Moran told police he would not submit to the test.
The officer placed him back in the patrol car, to be taken to the police station for processing, but Moran unbuckled his seat belt and tried to open the door to get out, documents said.
At the station, he allegedly continued to act up and damaged a police leather transport belt.
Moran was arraigned on charges of driving under the influence, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief. hit-and-run, driving with a suspended license, driving an unregistered vehicle and disregarding traffic lanes. He is free on $5,000 bail.
[naviga:h3]Saxonburg Police[/naviga:h3]
Sept. 5 — Police charged a man and woman in connection with the sale of baby formula to a couple who live on State Street.
Todd E. Thornhill, 37, of Penn Hills, Allegheny County and Brandi L. Cramer, 22, of Leechburg, Armstrong County are both charged with misdemeanor counts of theft and deceptive business practices.
The victims told police that they had met the defendants online and in June agreed to buy 40 cans of baby formula for $300. The transaction occurred June 14 at a borough store. But it wasn’t until after the meeting that the victims found they were short seven cans.
The couple subsequently tried unsuccessfully to have the defendants provide them with the remaining cans, according to court documents. They notified police June 21.
While investigating, Saxonburg police learned that Verona police in Allegheny County had accused Thornhill and Cramer of allegedly shoplifting cans of baby formula at the Giant Eagle store there, documents said.
[naviga:h3]Slippery Rock Police[/naviga:h3]
Monday — Police charged a Mercer County man with stealing lottery tickets from a store on Franklin Street this month.
Justin M. Holley, 32, of Greenville on Sept. 1 allegedly took the tickets that had accidentally fallen out of the lottery machine behind the register at the Kwik Fill. One of those tickets that did not belong to him, according to court documents, turned out to be a $22 winner.
Police said the store surveillance system captured the incident on video.
Holley is charged with a misdemeanor count of theft of property lost by mistake.
[naviga:h3]State Police, Butler[/naviga:h3]
8:59 a.m. Thursday — A 66-year-old Venango County man was hurt when the motorcycle he was driving rear-ended a car on Winfield Road at Bear Creek Road in Winfield Township.
Ross L. Robinson of Cranberry, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with an apparent ankle or leg injury. The other driver, Michael R. Feeley, 26, of Tarentum, Allegheny County, was not injured.
The Winfield Township Fire Department and Saxonburg Ambulance assisted at the scene.
Police cited Robinson for driving too closely to another vehicle.
Monday — Alyssa R. Wassum, 20, of Renfrew was charged with drugged driving during a sobriety checkpoint last month on the 400 block of Route 173 in Slippery Rock Township.
Police stopped Wassum shortly after midnight Aug. 26 and immediately smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from her car, according to court documents. She admitted that she had been smoking marijuana about an hour earlier.
She was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. A toxicology report later confirmed she had marijuana in her system.
Wassum is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
Monday — An Erie teenager was charged with drunken driving stemming from a traffic stop last month in Slippery Rock. Brandon M. Harvey, 19, was pulled over about 4:10 a.m. Aug. 26 for driving without headlights on Route 108.
Police took Harvey for a breath test after he failed field sobriety testing. His blood-alcohol reading was 0.148 percent, according to court documents.
He is charged with driving under the influence, DUI by a minor, underage drinking and a lighting violation.
Aug. 30 — Police charged an Allegheny County man with DUI in connection with a July wreck on Rockdale Road in Jefferson Township. Levi F. Colton, 23, of Tarentum told police that he lost control of his sport utility vehicle on the wet road.
Colton admitted that he had been drinking, according to court documents, and he subsequently failed field sobriety tests. A breath test later showed his blood-alcohol reading was 0.125 percent.
In addition to DUI, he is charged with driving at an unsafe speed, careless driving, disregarding traffic lanes and not wearing a seat belt.
[naviga:h3]State Police, Punxsutawney[/naviga:h3]
Wednesday — The state police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement cited the Rock-A-Fellas Sports Grille in Buffalo Township for violating the state liquor law by allegedly selling or furnishing alcohol to minors.
The alleged violation occurred Aug. 17. An administrative law judge will hear the case.
