7:48 a.m. Tuesday — Bryant K. Wells Sr., 48, of Butler was caught with suspected heroin after police were called for a fight involving three men at an apartment building on the 400 block of West North Street. Police said they searched Wells, who was seen coming out of the apartment when they got there. He was found with two bags of suspected heroin. He is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and disorderly conduct.

Monday — Jeremy J. Rivera, 26, of Butler Township was arrested on charges he allegedly shoplifted a pair of sunglasses and a cell phone charger at the Sheetz convenience store on New Castle Road. The merchandise is valued at $22.46.

Police said he admitted that he took the phone charger, but claimed he did not remember taking the glasses. Rivera, who has three prior shoplifting convictions, was arraigned on a felony count of retail theft. He was released on his own recognizance.

[naviga:h3]Saxonburg Police[/naviga:h3]

Aug. 31 — Constance D. Thompson, 55, of Saxonburg was arrested on a felony charge of stalking for her alleged continuing harassment of a man.

Police noted that twice previously this month they have filed charges against Thompson, accusing her of causing “emotional distress to the victim’s home and work life.”

Most recently, the defendant is accused of texting the man’s district manager about the man on Aug. 30.

Thompson was arraigned on the stalking charge as well as a misdemeanor count of harassment. She is free on $2,000 bail.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Butler[/naviga:h3]

10:39 a.m. Wednesday — Andrew P. Buzzard, 41, of Karns City was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance on West Jefferson Street in Butler. Charges are pending lab results, a police report said.

Wednesday — Thomas J. Clark, 25, no known address, was arrested on charges he stole $1,620 worth of property in July from a couple’s home in Center Township.

Clark’s brother and his brother’s fiancé live at the home on Pinewood Lane where he had been staying July 31 when the property turned up missing, according to court documents.

The allegedly stolen items included jewelry, a video game console, three video games and a drill set. Police accused Clark of selling the console and video games July 31 at a store at Clearview Mall.

District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned Clark on misdemeanor charges of theft by unlawful taking and theft by deception. His bail in the case was set at $2,000. He is being held in Butler County Prison.

Wednesday — Dakota J. Hinchberger, 25, of Portersville was charged with having drug contraband in connection with a traffic stop last year in Butler.

Police said that after stopping Hinchberger’s car Nov. 5 at West Pearl and North Washington streets, they learned he was wanted on a warrant. They also noticed a syringe on his seat when he got out of the vehicle, according to court documents.

Hinchberger admitted he was a heroin user, police said, and a search of the car turned up an empty stamp bag of suspected heroin. He is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following the traffic stop, the defendant was placed in Butler County Prison on the warrant.

Tuesday — Ivan Cumba, 46, of Butler was charged with making a false statement while trying to buy a gun in February at a Center Township store.

Police said Cumba provided erroneous information on the federal form that was required Feb. 6 when he attempted to buy a 9 mm pistol at the Rural King at Clearview Mall, according to court documents.

When his information was entered into the Pennsylvania Instant Check system, an automated system by which gun dealers can determine if someone can legally buy a gun in the state, he was denied the purchase.

Cumba is charged with unsworn falsification to authorities, a misdemeanor.

Monday — Heather L. Goehring, 44, of Butler was charged with being more than 2½ times over the legal limit for alcohol when she was arrested for drunken driving in Brady Township.

Police said they found Goehring Aug. 13 stopped at a flashing yellow traffic light on Route 8 at Hall Road. She eventually pulled off the road after police turned around and pulled up behind her, according to court documents.

Goehring admitted that she had been drinking that night and showed signs of impairment during field sobriety testing. She was taken for a breath test that showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.203 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

In addition of driving under the influence, she is charged with four traffic violations including careless driving.

9:07 p.m. Saturday — Nathan Y. Scherer of Fairview Township was arrested for drunken driving after his pickup truck with its high beams on passed a trooper’s patrol car on Horner Road in Petrolia.

Scherer was taken for a breath test after he failed field sobriety testing. His blood-alcohol reading was 0.24 percent, according to court documents.

He was arraigned on charges of driving under the influence, failing to use low beams, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving. He was placed in Butler County Prison $5,000 bail following arraignment.

Monday — Police charged Chad A. Fyffe, 21, of Grove City with drugged driving in connection with a traffic stop last month in Clay Township. He was stopped about 1:20 a.m. Aug. 26 for speeding and traveling over the fog line on Route 8 in the area of Muddy Creek Drive.

A trooper caught the whiff of marijuana coming from the defendant’s pickup truck and he admitted having smoked the drug about an hour earlier, according to court documents.

He was arrested after failing field sobriety tests and was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test, which showed he had marijuana and amphetamine in his system.

A search of his truck, documents said, turned up a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana, a scale, marijuana grinder and other contraband.

Fyffe is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, speeding, disregarding traffic lanes and driving a vehicle without valid inspection.

12:58 a.m. Sept. 2 — Police arrested an Alabama man for DUI after he was stopped for tailgating another vehicle and crossing over his travel lane on Route 8 south of Staff Road in Brady Township.

William A Tranum, 33, of Luverne smelled of alcohol and police noticed an open bottle of beer on the front passenger side of his pickup truck. He acknowledged that he had been drinking while driving, court documents said. A breath test subsequently showed his blood alcohol was 0.175 percent.

He is charged with DUI, driving with an open container of alcohol, following too closely to another vehicle, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.

11:56 p.m. Aug. 30 — Ronald J. Parson, 45, was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a woman during a domestic dispute at his home on Bauder School Road in Prospect.

Police were contacted after the reported victim, Karen Fry, went to Jameson Hospital in New Castle for treatment of injuries in the alleged assault. She told authorities she went to Parson’s home to pick up the couple’s son when the defendant started arguing with her, according to court documents.

She said Parson grabbed her by the throat and choked her. Police reported that she had redness to her neck.

Troopers later spoke to Parson at his house. He admitted that he grabbed Fry by the neck during the altercation.

Parson was arraigned on charges of simple assault and harassment. He is free on $2,000 bail.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Kittanning[/naviga:h3]

3:39 p.m. Tuesday — Three Butler County men were injured in a one-vehicle wreck in Harrison Township, Allegheny County. The crash happened when Andrew E. Zito, 56, of Cabot lost control of his cargo van and struck a concrete barrier on Route 28 north.

Zito and his passengers — Abraham A. Zito, 24, and Kyle S. Washkau, 24, both of Butler — all suffered minor injuries. Both Zitos were wearing seat belts; Washkau was not.

12:30 a.m. Tuesday — A car driven by Anthony J. Stockdale, 21, of Templeton crashed into a concrete barrier on the side of Graff Bridge on Route 422 west in North Buffalo Township.
