Zitzman claims BCBA singles titleMARS — Paul Zitzman rolled a 701 series to win the Butler County Bowling Association's singles tournament recently at Mars Lanes.Brad McCullough finished second with a 660 series. Rounding out the top five were Jim Hepler with a 659, Mike Dunkerley a 657 and Bill Shever a 639.There were 89 bowlers in the tournament.

Butler grad Weyand Player of YearERIE — Butler graduate Raschel Weyand, a junior defender on the Penn State Behrend women's soccer team, has been named ECAC South Defensive Player of the Year.Weyand scored two goals and eight points this season for the Lions and helped the team post a 1.14 goals-against average.

UConn women get 81st straight winSTORRS, Conn. — No. 2 UConn was expected to be tested against No. 15 DePaul, the first of five ranked teams it will face this month.It quickly became clear that the Huskies had all the answers.Kia Nurse scored a career-high 33 points and UConn routed the Blue Demons 91-46 for its 81st straight victory.Napheesa Collier added 18 points, and Katie Lou Samuelson had 16.Kelly Campbell had 10 points to lead DePaul (5-2).The Blue Demons missed their first eight shots and were held to a single free throw for nearly 6 minutes to start the game. UConn (6-0), which has won 53 straight at home, hit its first nine shots, most of them on the break, and jumped out to a 22-1 lead.By the end of the quarter, UConn led 37-6.“We played with a little bit more of a purpose defensively and that got us off and running,” coach Geno Auriemma said. “We created a lot of easy shots for ourselves.”

Rivers fined $15,000 for abusing officialNEW YORK — Los Angeles Clippers coach Doc Rivers was fined $15,000 by the NBA for verbally abusing a game official and failing to leaving the court in a timely manner after his ejection.The incident happened with 18.6 remaining in the first overtime of the Clippers’ 127-122 double-overtime loss at Brooklyn on Tuesday night.Rivers was given a technical foul for crossing over midcourt, then another and ejected.The Clippers trailed by two late in the first OT and fouled Sean Kilpatrick in the backcourt after he received the inbounds pass.
