Helen Carlos Labbett
Helen Brode Carlos Labbett, 90, of Erie, formerly of Butler, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday at the Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center in Erie.
She was born Oct. 24, 1918, in Cumberland, Md., the daughter of the late Paul Brode and the late Mabel Johnson Brode.
Helen was a 1939 graduate of the Uniontown Hospital School of Nursing. She completed postgraduate training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago and had been a nurse at the Aspinwall Veterans Affairs Hospital in Pittsburgh, Kiski Prep School in Saltsburg, the office of Dr. Robert Hunt in Butler and the VA Medical Center in Butler.
Helen was a resident of the Butler community for more than 50 years and enjoyed living in Lumar Village and Newhaven Court.
She especially enjoyed many activities with the Butler County Association for the Blind and was a member of the Eastern Star, a charter member of the Kittanning Order of the Amaranths, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and an application was in process for membership in the Daughters of The American Revolution.
Helen was a devoted Christian who was a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother. She will be remembered for her witty humor and fun-loving spirit and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Helen is survived by two daughters, Marne Boyce of Lake City, Erie County, and Mary Fraser and son-in-law, Blair Fraser, of Darnestown, Md.; five grandchildren, Bridget Boyce Holmes of Columbia, Md., Meghan Boyce Riesterer of Colorado Springs, Colo., Garrett Boyce of Lake City and currently serving in Iraq, Stewart Fraser of Alexandria, Va., and Margaret Fraser Hunter of Lexington, Ky; a brother, Robert Brode of Clayton, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas P. Carlos and Bryant Labbett; her parents; her sister, Jane Diehlher; a son-in-law, Harold "Buddy" Boyce; and two grandsons, Brent Boyce and baby boy "Tad" Boyce.
