William ‘Bill’ Crawford

William D. “Bill” Crawford, 84, of Saxonburg, went to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, Aug. 16, 2026, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

William was born in New Kensington on Jan. 23, 1942. He was the son of the late Kenneth and Ethel Wineland Crawford.

He was a 1959 graduate of Arnold High School. Bill earned an associate degree in accounting from Robert Morris University. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and had earned the rank of petty officer second class. He worked for Mellon Bank for over 30 years, where he was a well-respected and highly trusted branch manager among his many customers.

Bill was a longtime member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Cabot. He was a Civil War history buff and he and his wife enjoyed visiting many of the Civil War battlefields. He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan.

He is survived by his wife, Earla Byers Hillwig Crawford; three children, Kelly Kapelewski and her husband, Fran, a son, John Crawford and his wife, Dorothy, and Jodi Piernik and her husband, Jay; his stepchildren, Leslie Steinbaugh and her husband, Brady, Chris Hillwig and his wife, Jodie, and Jason Hillwig and his wife, Jenni; his grandchildren, Conner and Talor Kapelewski, Nathan Crawford, Olivia Wood and Gillian Piernik; his stepgrandchildren, Tiffany Layton, Zachary Kelly, Alex Hillwig, Josh Hillwig, Jayden Hillwig, Bree Meredith and Brandon Steinbaugh; one great-granddaughter, Maeve Crawford; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Bill Stanley; and a grandson, Jacob Crawford.

CRAWFORD — Friends of William D. “Bill” Crawford, who died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2026, will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 330 Hannahstown Road, Cabot. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Brian Bocian, church pastor, officiating.

Military honors will be accorded at the church following the funeral.

Interment will be at Saxonburg Memorial Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church, 330 Hannahstown Road, Cabot, PA 16023.
