Buchanan

Doris Eileen Buchanan, 60, of West Liberty Road, Slippery Rock, in West Liberty, died suddenly at 2:45 p.m. Friday at her home due to natural causes.

Born in Grove City, Sept. 7, 1948, she was a daughter of William Patrick McGowan and Clara Catherine Vogel McGowan.

She married William Edward Buchanan on Dec. 12, 1969.

Doris graduated from Slippery Rock High School in the Class of 1966. She owned and operated her own specialty sewing business called Buchanan Creations in West Liberty for more than 20 years. She currently was the auditor for West Liberty and attended the West Liberty United Methodist Church.

She loved spending time with her family including her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She enjoyed camping, music, reading and baking.

In addition to her husband of West Liberty, she is survived by two daughters, Amy S. Sedwick and her husband, Larry, of Cedar Lake, Ind., and Michelle R. Slater and her husband, John, of Slippery Rock; a son, Matthew J. Buchanan and his wife, Amy, of Chicora; her mother, Clara C. McGowan of Slippery Rock; a brother, Patrick McGowan of Cranberry Township; and four sisters, Karen Hoover of Huntingdon, Linda Young and her husband, Gerald, of Pooler, Ga., Rebecca Allison of Little Rock, Ark., and Pamela Geist and her husband, George, of Saxonburg.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Steven, Alyssa, Benjamin and Elizabeth Sedwick, Tori Slater, and Coleman, Caitlyn and Hannah Buchanan; nine nephews; nine nieces; and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and an infant brother.

<B>BUCHANAN</B> — Friends of Doris Eileen Buchanan, who died Friday, March 27, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. The family also will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the West Liberty United Methodist Church, 135 Church Road, Slippery Rock, in West Liberty. The Rev. James Lewis, pastor of the West Liberty United Methodist Church, will officiate.
