Kizzie McDeavitt Steele Ellenberger

Kizzie McDeavitt Steele Ellenberger, 85, of Slippery Rock Township died at 10 a.m. Saturday after a three-month illness.

Born April 13, 1922, in West Liberty Borough, she was the daughter of Daniel "Davie" Floyd and Annie Lauretta Smith McDeavitt.

She spent her winter months in Silver Springs, Fla.

She married James Truman Steele Nov. 18, 1940, and he preceded her in death July 31, 1982. She married Clarence O. "Ogie" Ellenberger Dec. 22, 1984, and he preceded her in death July 8, 2006.

She had worked at the Slippery Rock A & P Grocery Store in the early 1960s. She later worked at Slippery Rock Servi-Star Hardware during the 1970s and retired in 1982.

She was a member of the Highland Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock.

She enjoyed camping and was a member of the National Camping Travelers. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo and dancing. She is survived by four children, David W. and his wife, Joyce, Steele of Jackson Center, Robert J. and his wife, Mary Sue, Steele of Slippery Rock, Ruth I. Stodolak and her companion Red Visniesky of Grove City, and Bonnie K. and her husband, Gary, Van Tassel of Seaford, Va.; and two brothers, Daniel F. "Buck" and his wife, Midge, McDeavitt of West Liberty Borough and John D. and his wife, Linda, McDeavitt of Slippery Rock. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter; a sister, Mary Boozel; and four brothers, Albert, James, George and Isaac.

<B>ELLENBERGER</B>— Friends of Kizzie McDeavitt Steele Ellenberger, who died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Highland Presbyterian Church, 310 Franklin St., Slippery Rock. The Rev. Albert Rhodes Stuart will officiate.Burial will be in the West Liberty Cemetery.Memorial contributions to American Cancer Society, Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001.
