Thompson

Gerald S. Thompson, 90, of Zelienople died Saturday at the Passavant Retirement Community, Zelienople.

Born Feb. 27, 1917, in Westmoreland City, he was the son of James E. and Margaret Hannah Brewer Thompson.

Mr. Thompson was the founder of Thompson's Restaurant in Harmony.

He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran and served as a sergeant in the 459th Fighter Squadron, 33rd Fighter Group. His service included the Battle of Burma, where he earned the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. He was a former member of the Harmony VFW Post.

He was a talented painter and artist and donated paintings to the Harmony Museum.

Mr. Thompson formerly raised racing pigeons and had been a member of the Harmony Racing Pigeon Club. He was a European car enthusiast and was a former member of the Austin Healey Club of America, the Rolls-Royce Owners Club and the New England MGT Register.

He is survived by a son, Raymond J. Thompson and his wife, Mary Ann, of Harmony; a brother, Ray Thompson and his wife, Peg, of McKeesport; a sister-in-law, Betty Jean Thompson of Elizabeth; five grandchildren, Theresa Sackett and her husband, Vic, Renea Wise and her husband, Philip, and Thomas, Raylene and Michael Thompson; his special friend, Wilma Sloughfy; and nieces and nephews.

His wife, Louise Wolfe Thompson, whom he married March 16, 1942, died March 28, 1989. He also was preceded by a brother, James Thompson.
