Friday — Police reported that they charged a Butler Intermediate High School student with misdemeanor assault stemming from an altercation in March at the school that left another student in need of hospital treatment.

The suspect, a 13-year-old boy, is accused of hitting another 13-year-old boy in the face. The alleged victim required stitches.

The suspect, who police did not identify, is charged in Butler County juvenile court with simple assault and harassment.

2:20 p.m. Thursday — Two students were charged at Butler Intermediate High School. Police cited the students, both boys, ages 13 and 14, with disorderly conduct.

2:15 p.m. Thursday — A car driven by Melissa J. Crawford, 43, of Sarver rear-ended a vehicle stopped for traffic on Route 68. Kenneth Summerville, 35, of East Butler was the other driver.

Police cited Crawford for driving with a suspended license, driving at an unsafe speed and careless driving.

11:30 p.m. April 30 — Tyler J. Scheller, 23, of Zelienople was arrested for drugged driving after a traffic stop on Route 8 near Dinnerbell Road. Police said they pulled over Scheller after he crossed into opposing traffic and nearly collided with another vehicle.

The defendant appeared to be impaired, according to court documents, and police later noticed a baggie containing suspected cocaine between the driver’s seat and center console. Police also seized a cigarette pack with a suspected marijuana stem in it.

Scheller failed field sobriety tests but he refused to submit to a blood test.

In addition to driving under the influence of a controlled substance, he is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and failing to keep right.

April 28 — Lee Harless, 48, of Butler was charged in connection with the alleged unauthorized use of another man’s credit cards last year.

Police said Harless between Sept. 14 and Nov. 3 was working as an independent contractor for the alleged victim when he used the cards to illegally purchase items valued at a combined $2,244 at the HP Starr Company and Home Depot stores.

Harless is charged with theft and receiving stolen property, both first-degree misdemeanors.

5:14 p.m. April 30 — An Armstrong County man was allegedly caught with suspected marijuana and other drug contraband after a traffic stop for speeding on Route 422 near Cornetti Road in Clearfield Township.

Police said when they got to the car, driven by Daniel D. Sample Jr., 30, of Ford Cliff, they smelled a “strong odor” of marijuana coming from it. A search of the vehicle turned up a pill bottle containing what appeared to be marijuana in the center console, according to court documents.

Additionally, a metal smoking pipe was found in the same console and a glass smoking pipe was found in the glove box.

Sample is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

April 28 — Sarah Jane Deal, 30, of Butler was charged with drugged driving in connection with a one-vehicle crash in Summit Township. She is suspecting of hitting a tree on Linwood Drive near Grossman Drive about 7:45 a.m. April 12.

Police said they found Deal at her home in the driver’s seat of her van. She admitted being in the crash. According to court documents, she appeared to be impaired and admitted using methadone and cocaine before driving.

Deal was subsequently taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test, which confirmed she had methadone and cocaine in her system as well as the anti-anxiety drug lorazepam, documents said.

She is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.

April 25 — An unknown thief stole a Smith & Wesson M&P Bodyguard .380-caliber pistol from a home on Cartwright Road in Concord Township. The owner, a 64-year-old man, reported the gun was stolen between April 23 and 25.

3:30 p.m. April 15 — A stolen license plate landed a Lawrence County woman in trouble.

Police said a patrol trooper at Route 8 and Mahood Road in Center Township spotted a car and ran a check of its registration, which found it was “dead plate,” meaning it was expired, according to court documents.

The Atlantic City Police Department in New Jersey had previously listed the plate in the National Crime Information Center database as stolen.

The trooper stopped Amber M. Trufley, 35, of New Castle, who was driving the car, which also had an expired inspection ticker and was not insured.

Trufley is charged with receiving stolen property, driving a vehicle with suspected registration, driving a vehicle without insurance and without valid inspection.
