5:19 a.m. Saturday — Stephen S. Schweiger Jr., 24, of Butler was arrested after he allegedly entered his girlfriend’s apartment without her permission.

Police were called to Ashley Humble’s home in the 400 block of Negley Avenue for a reported burglary in progress, according to court documents. When officers got there, they found Schweiger walking around the back of the house.

He told police that he and Humble, his girlfriend, had been arguing because she would not let him inside. So, documents said, he crawled in through the basement window, which he also damaged.

Humble didn’t want him there, police said, because she believed he was drunk. He had been at her home earlier that night, she recounted, and vomited on her back porch.

Police noted while speaking to the defendant, they smelled a “strong odor” of alcohol coming from him. He also appeared to be intoxicated.

According to a police affidavit, as Humble “was getting ready to go to bed Schweiger appeared in her bedroom.”

The defendant was arraigned on a felony charge of trespass and summary charges of criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $2,500 bail following arraignment.

9:15 a.m. May 24 — A crash involving two Erie County motorcyclists on Interstate 79 in Lancaster Township left one of the men badly injured.

Duane E. Churchill, 68, of Erie was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh with apparent serious injuries. He also was cited for causing the wreck.

Police said Churchill was driving a Harley-Davidson Road Glide as he came upon southbound traffic that was backed up because of a prior accident. He slowed down but he was unable to stop in time before hitting the back of a Harley-Davidson Ultra Limited.

The collision caused Churchill to lose control of his bike, according to a police report, which rolled over multiple times. The other driver, Joseph R. Georgal, 71, of Fairview, was not injured. Both bikers were wearing helmets.

Churchill’s condition was not known this morning. Police ticketed him for driving at an unsafe speed.
