3:07 a.m. Tuesday — Lukas T. Safranek, 22, of Butler allegedly robbed another man of $45 at the victim’s home on the 400 block of Franklin Street.

Police said Derick Geist recounted that Safranek came to his home to pay $80 that the defendant owed him, according to court documents. Safranek told Geist he was going to pay with a 100-dollar bill.

The victim got out his wallet to make change and had $45 in his hand, documents said, when Safranek slapped the money out of Geist’s hand. He grabbed the money off the floor and ran away.

The defendant was arraigned Wednesday on a charge of robbery and released on his own recognizance.

Tuesday — Police charged Jennifer B. Johnston, 47, of Butler in connection with a accident July 4 on Walker Avenue.

The minor accident happened about 10:35 p.m. when the driver’s side mirrors of Johnston’s car and another car collided. Both drivers stopped, police said.

Johnston told the other driver that she needed to go to her house to get her insurance information, according to court documents. She drove away and never returned.

Police later found her car at her home on West McQuistion Road. She is charged with hit-and-run and driving a vehicle without insurance.

Monday — Douglas Good, 56, of Butler was charged with attacking a neighbor last month on Hallstein Street. The alleged assault left 55-year-old James Niederriter hospitalized.

Police first spoke to Niederriter July 4 when he stopped at the station to file an assault report. He showed officers medical reports from Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh indicating his treatment for a subdural hematoma, or bleeding on the brain.

He said he suffered the injury about 7 p.m. June 30 when Good, who lives on Amy Avenue, assaulted him at his home nearby, according to court documents.

Niederriter told police that the defendant shoved him, causing him to fall back and hit his head on the concrete. Good picked the victim up by the throat, documents said, and threw him to the ground.

Police said when they spoke to Niederriter they noticed a cut and bruising on the back of his head and red marks on the left side of his neck.

Good is charged with simple assault.

Tuesday — Nancy A. Hinchberger, 40, of Butler was charged with having medication without a prescription stemming from an incident last month at the Highlands Apartments on Villa Drive.

Police said they found Hinchberger about 6:25 a.m. June 23 sleeping in a vehicle in the parking lot. On the passenger side floor, officers also noticed a large prescription pill bottle that had its label torn off.

The bottle contained a number of pills — including alprazolam, carisoprodol and tramadol — of which Hinchberger did not have prescriptions.

She is charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Tuesday — Police charged two men in connection with a suspected drugged driving crash last month at Route 8 North and Beech Road.

The wreck happened about 4 p.m. June 21 when Nicholas A. Evanko, 28, of Butler lost control of his car, hitting a curb, embankment and fire hydrant. He reportedly went into a nearby church after the crash.

Police said that when they got there they found Evanko’s passenger, Douglas Loso, 35, of Prospect, seated on a curb in the church parking lot. They subsequently found Evanko in the bathroom of the church.

Evanko appeared impaired, according to court documents, and he admitted talking a “couple” of clonazepam pills. The drug is commonly used to treat anxiety and certain seizure disorders.

He said he did not know how the accident happened.

Loso, who also appeared under the influence of drugs, documents said, told police that he and Evanko had used heroin. He turned over 10 used stamp bags of suspected heroin.

Police subsequently arrested Evanko after he failed field sobriety tests. He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test, which showed the presence of several drugs, including clonazepam, morphine and oxycodone.

Evanko is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, accidents involving injury while not properly licensed, driving at an unsafe speed and reckless driving.

Loss is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and public drunkenness.

Tuesday — A witness and a cell phone helped police identify two alleged thieves accused of stealing trailer hitches off vehicles last weekend at the Butler County Fairgrounds in Prospect.

The suspects — Colton R. Beachem, 20, of Cherry Township and Blake M. Saylor, 21, of Brady Township — are both charged with misdemeanor counts of theft and receiving stolen property. Saylor also was cited for public drunkenness.

Police were called to the fairgrounds about 11:40 p.m. Saturday for a reported theft. A woman said she had seen two men taking the hitches and, armed with her cell phone video camera, confronted them, according to court documents.

The pair left in a car, which the woman recorded, along with the license plate number. It did not take long for police to track the car to Saylor, whose driver’s license photo matched one of the men on the witness’ video.

Before long, police said, they had identified Beachem.

Troopers went to Saylor’s home, where they found the car seen in the video, as well as six trailer hitches. Police noted that while interviewing Saylor, he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

12:08 a.m. Monday — Daniel M. Roxberry, 49, of Allegheny Township was arrested for drunken driving after he crashed his car on Parker Pike about one-half mile north of Taylor Road in Parker Township.

Police said they smelled alcohol coming from Roxberry as they spoke to him and he acknowledged having “a few beers,” according to court documents. He told police the wreck happened when he swerved to miss a deer on the road.

Roxberry was eventually taken to the barracks for a breath test, which showed his blood-alcohol was 0.183 percent, more than twice the state’s 0.08 percent legal limit.

He is charged with driving under the influence, failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes, driving at an unsafe speed and careless driving.
