5:07 p.m. Tuesday — William E. Shaner, 27, was arrested after allegedly assaulting his mother, 57-year-old Barbara Foster, at their home on the 100 block of East Christie Avenue,Shaner is accused of calling his mother names before choking her, according to a police report. He drove away before officers got there. He later returned home where police arrested him.He was placed in Butler County Prison to await arraignment on charges of simple assault and harassment.Tuesday — Police charged Laura Bivona, 43, of Butler with drunken driving stemming from a traffic stop at 1:22 a.m. April 16 at West Birch and Chestnut streets.A blood test at Butler Memorial Hospital later showed her blood-alcohol was 0.184 percent, which is more than double the 0.08 percent level considered intoxicated under state law.In addition to driving under the influence, Bivona is charged with driving an unregistered vehicle.Tuesday — Donald L. Kingsley, 75, was cited for cruelty to animals after police April 9 found a malnourished dog at his home on Lyon Avenue.Officers went to the home after a caller reported seeing a “very thin” dog there with no food or water.Police found a female boxer dog tied to the porch. The animal appeared “extremely thin,” according to a police report, and its ribs and hip bones were exposed. The dog also has a small lesion on its tail.Kingsley told police that he had been watching the dog for about a month while its owner's home was being remodeled. Believing the dog was not being properly cared for, officers took it to the Butler County Humane Society.A veterinarian later examined the dog. Police on Monday received the exam's report, which determined the animal was emaciated.Tuesday — Dylan M. Crookshank, 21, of Butler Township was cited for a hit-and-run in connection with a wreck earlier this month in the 400 block of East Jefferson Street.Police said Crookshank drove away after his pickup truck struck the back of a sport utility vehicle, which had a broken taillight.11:06 p.m. Thursday — Mark S. Owens, 36, of Butler landed in trouble with the law and in the hospital after police spotted him passed out in a doorway of a home in the 100 block of West New Castle Street.Officers said Owens smelled of alcohol and was barely coherent when they found him. They searched him and turned up a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana.Butler Ambulance Services took him to Butler Memorial Hospital “due to his unresponsive condition,” the report said.Police charged Owens with possession of a small amount of marijuana and public drunkenness.
Monday — Police obtained an arrest warrant for Michael D. Huellen, 36, of Munhall, Allegheny County, stemming from a shoplifting case about 9:10 p.m. Friday at the Walmart at Butler Commons.Huellen allegedly stole $10 in merchandise from the store before driving awayThe defendant, who has four prior shoplifting convictions, is charged with felony counts of retail theft and receiving stolen property, and a summary charge of driving with a suspended license.
Monday — Police charged Aubree Rogers, 25, no known address, with stealing a shotgun Friday from her grandmother's house in the 100 block of West Cruikshank Road.Later, police were told that a 911 call shortly before 2 p.m. reported a woman talking on a telephone, crying and holding a shotgun behind a business on Route 8.The woman, later identified as Rogers, saw police and took off running into woods, according to court documents. Officers quickly chased her down.Police recovered the gun outside the business where they found her. It was not loaded. Because of her criminal record, which includes a burglary conviction, Rogers is prohibited by state law from having a gun, documents said,Rogers, whose last known address was Lyndora, is charged with illegal possession of a firearm, theft and receiving stolen property, all felonies.
11 p.m. Tuesday — A 22-year-old man reported that someone broke into his apartment in the 300 block of Church Street in Mars. Unspecified property in the home was damaged but nothing was taken.Tuesday — Police charged James F. Jacob Jr., 43, Monroeville, Allegheny County, with drunken driving stemming from a traffic stop at 2:26 a.m. March 15 at Route 8 and South Benbrook Road in Center Township.Jacob is charged with driving under the influence, careless driving, failing to keep right and not wearing a seat belt.Tuesday — Timothy W. Pears, 26, of Chicora was charged with misdemeanor drug possession after he was caught with suspected marijuana following a traffic stop at 3:46 a.m. March 19 on Calairi Lane in Donegal Township.Pears is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Police also cited him for disobeying traffic control devices, a stop sign violation and careless driving.Monday — A laptop computer and a bottle of cologne were stolen in a burglary at a home on Stillwater Lane in Slippery Rock Township. The break-in happened between 9:45 and 10:10 p.m.Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.4:36 a.m. Saturday — Amanda N. Tiell, 20, of Chambersburg, Franklin County, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after she crashed her car on Route 8 north of Route 138 in Clay Township.
9:50 p.m. Tuesday — Edward A. Welton Jr., 27, and Charisse L. James, 35, both of Harrisville, were arrested after an argument turned physical at a home on Rumbaugh Lane in Irwin Township. Welton and James were arraigned on charges of simple assault, and placed in Venango County Jail on $5,000 bail each.
4:15 p.m. Monday — A car driven by Meagan K. Ridlon, 20, of Kittanning and a sport utility vehicle driven by Danielle M. Bowser, 19, of Cowansville collided on Bunker Hill Road just north of Mile Long Hill in North Buffalo Township. Police said Ridlon was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.April 21 — A would-be burglar tried to break into Faith Presbyterian Church on East Brady Road in East Franklin Township. The suspect between 1 p.m. April 20 and 1 p.m. April 21 attempted to get in by breaking the door jamb but failed.
Tuesday — A 6-foot aluminum ladder, valued at $100, was reported stolen from a home on Mill Bridge Road in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County.
