Monday — Darien D. Clark, 27, of Duquesne, Pa., was charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession after he was arrested for a different reason. According to court documents, police encountered Clark while investigating an unrelated incident on Feb. 18.Police said Clark had been in the area of a reported physical altercation, but told police he didn't know anything about it. Police said Clark was known to the officers, and an inquiry after they let him go on his way showed he had an active warrant.According to documents, the officers later found Clark driving and started a traffic stop. Police said Clark followed instructions and was arrested without incident, but officers saw a small bag of marijuana in the car.Monday — Cayla M. Cygan, 32, of Butler, was charged with misdemeanor theft in relation to a reported theft at the Honey Bear in November. According to charging documents, the gas station's owner told police they fired Cygan after she stole money and items from the store.Police said they watched video surveillance that showed Cygan stealing cigarettes, food and drinks as well as cash from the register, all with a combined value of around $280.March 11 — Carey Ann Doyle, 47, of Butler, was charged with misdemeanor simple assault. According to charging documents, ChildLine was alerted to bruising on a 17-year-old child. The documents said the child also has Down syndrome.Police said during an interview with Doyle, she admitted to using a wood paint stir stick to cause the injuries.
Tuesday — Police received a tip from state police that Brandon Gurowski, 28, of Slippery Rock, who police indicated is a suspect in a different matter, was sitting outside the Walmart, according to charging documents.Police said upon arrival, officers noted that Gurowski appeared intoxicated, and he was arrested for that reason. Police said while searching the man, they found two full stamp bags of heroin, nine empty stamp bags and four syringes, among other substances and paraphernalia. Gurowski has been charged with two misdemeanor counts of possessing a controlled substance and one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.Tuesday — Katherine P. Scott, 50, of Butler, was charged with a felony count of retail theft stemming from a Jan. 13 incident at Walmart in Butler Township.According to charging documents, Scott was detained by theft prevention associate when police arrived. The documents said the associate told police Scott had concealed two packs of Midol in her diaper bag and also failed to scan nine other items before trying to leave. The combined value was around $65.Police said Scott was charged with a felony because of three prior retail theft convictions.Monday — Jessica L. Lewis, 49, of Butler, was charged with two counts of bad checks following an incident at Giant Eagle.
2:09 p.m. Saturday — Police responded to Walmart for a reported retail theft that resulted in a misdemeanor charge against Matthew A. Thomas, 31, of Mars. According to documents, Thomas fled from the loss prevention officer and was seen getting into a black Ford pickup truck with a red stripe.The documents said a store employee told police Thomas had removed multiple items from their packaging and had hidden them in his clothes. Those items included phone cases, laser radar, a wireless stand, a smart watch, a charger and a drill bit set for a combined value of around $308.Adams Township Police later assisted in Thomas' arrest, at which point drill bits were allegedly found in his pocket.12:42 p.m. Saturday — Police responded to Walmart for a reported retail theft, which later resulted in charges against Nicole L. Lasher, 44, of Kittanning. According to charging documents, a Walmart Asset Protection associate detained Lasher after they observed Lasher take a price tag off a purse and try to leave without paying for it.Police said surveillance video shows Lasher trying to steal the purse, valued at $16.94.According to documents, Lasher was charged with a felony retail theft charge because she has two prior retail theft convictions.
March 11 — Edward D. Skrot, 35, of New Kensington, was charged with a first-offense DUI stemming from a Jan. 16 traffic stop on Route 28 in Buffalo Township. According to charging documents, police stopped Skrot after watching him swerve between lanes.Police said they put Skrot through field sobriety tests, which indicated he was impaired. After his arrest, Skrot told police he had taken a second dose of methadone before driving, according to documents.The documents said a blood test was administered and showed Skrot had methadone and fentanyl in his system.
