11:53 p.m. Thursday — James E. Howard-George, 19, of Butler was arrested in connection with an earlier altercation in the city during which he and another man allegedly stole two cell phones.Howard-George and Jedediah Lee Owens-Vickers, 20, no known address, are accused of accosting three people about 10:10 p.m. Wednesday in a parking lot across from Cubs Hall on at South McKean Street. They took the cell phones from two of the alleged victims.The suspects also chased after one of those victims, who apparently tried to get away. Howard-George is accused of catching up to and punching that victim in the face three times.Police obtained arrest warrants for both suspects on charges of theft, receiving stolen property and disorderly conduct. Additionally, Howard-George is charged with harassment.Police noted that when they arrested Howard-George, he had one of the stolen cell phones with him. He was arraigned on charges and placed in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail.
3:30 p.m. Wednesday — A 17-year-old girl was caught allegedly shoplifting merchandise at the Walmart in Butler Commons. The girl, who police did not identify, was found with about $100 worth of stolen items in her purse. She was cited for retail theft.11:53 a.m. Wednesday — Tessa Hopper, 19, of Worthington, Armstrong County, was cited for retail theft after allegedly shoplifting at the Kohl's store in the Butler Crossing shopping plaza.9:46 p.m. Tuesday — An Armstrong County man is accused of throwing stamp bags of suspected heroin out the window of a car as police tried to stop him for speeding on Route 422.Police said they clocked 25-year-old Broc A. Page of Worthington traveling 68 mph in a 55 mph zone. An officer activated his emergency lights and siren but the suspect did not stop.Instead, according to court documents, he began “throwing numerous items out of the vehicle.” Page, about one mile later, pulled over just before the Mitchell Hill exit.Police said when they got to the car, they spotted evidence of suspected drug use, including a broken piece of a pen tube on the driver's side floor and a razor blade on the manual shift assembly.Officers searched the area and recovered four stamp bags of suspected heroin that Page had allegedly thrown from the car.Page is charged with tampering with physical evidence, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, speeding, failing to yield to an emergency vehicle and littering on a highway.
Wednesday — Police filed drunken driving charges against Matthew T. Leslie, 22, of Butler stemming from a one-car accident about 1:25 a.m. March 29 at Route 228 and Seven Fields Boulevard.Leslie was allegedly intoxicated when he crashed his car into a guardrail in front of the Dairy Queen restaurant. He was later taken to UPMC Passavant-Cranberry for a blood test.Toxicology results showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.174 percent, according to court documents. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.
Tuesday — Police charged Carley A. Leon, 20, of Cranberry Township with driving drunk, stemming from a traffic stop about 11:50 p.m. March 28 at Route 19 and Heights Drive.She failed several field sobriety tests and was taken to UPMC Passavant-Cranberry for a blood test.Toxicology results showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.139 percent, according to court documents. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.Leon is charged with driving under the influence, DUI while a minor, minors prohibited from driving with any alcohol in their system, disregarding traffic lanes and an open container violation.Monday — A Venango County man was charged with having an illegal knife following a traffic stop in February.Police said they stopped David H. London, 39, of Oil City for driving a car with a broken taillight about 11:50 p.m. Feb. 27 on the Interstate 79 on-ramp at Little Creek Road. He later allowed officers to search the vehicle.The search turned up a “large combat style knife” under the driver's seat, court documents said.Police charged London with possession of a prohibited offensive weapon and driving with a suspended license.
12:37 a.m. March 29 — Austin Malone, 22, of Zelienople was arrested on a felony drug charge after he was found with liquid THC, following a traffic stop at West Beaver Street and South Green Lane.Malone, who was a passenger in the car that was stopped for erratic driving, was searched and found with a bottle containing liquid THC, which is the active ingredient in marijuana, according to court documents.He also had a Mason jar and fake aerosol can containing marijuana.Malone is charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. He was arraigned and placed in the Butler County Prison $5,000 bail.
8:19 a.m. Tuesday — No injuries were reported in a seven vehicle, chain-reaction accident blamed on icy road conditions on Interstate 79 in Cranberry Township. All the vehicles were traveling south.The crash happened when the first vehicle slid sideways and was struck by a second car. The first vehicle rolled onto its side. The other vehicles crashed while trying to avoid the initial wreckage. Two vehicles had to be towed and five others had minor damage.9:11 p.m. Monday — Two Butler men were caught with suspected marijuana following a traffic stop on West Cunningham Street near the Pizza Hut in Butler. Matthew R. Green, 25, who was driving the car, and Bernard L. Feil, 62, a passenger, face charges of possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
