12:47 a.m. Aug. 24 — Roy A. Gibson, 39, was arrested after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend during a domestic dispute at an apartment on the 300 block of Virginia Avenue.
The victim told police that Gibson threw a bed, glass ashtray and other household items at her, according to court documents.
Gibson was arraigned on a charge of simple assault and released on nonmonetary bond.
2:13 a.m. Aug. 29 — Franklin Goepfert, 52, of Butler allegedly caused a disturbance at the 11th Frame Bar and Grill on Fairground Hill Road. He is accused of antagonizing other bar patrons and throwing beer bottles in the parking lot, according to police reports.Police cited Goepfert for disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.Aug. 28 — Brandon L. Russell, 26, of Butler was arraigned on five felony counts of retail theft and a misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property stemming from separate shoplifting incidents last year at the Butler Commons' Target store.Police charged Russell last month following an investigation that began Feb. 21 when the store's loss-prevention employee advised there was surveillance video of him removing merchandise from packaging, placing the items in his pocket and leaving without paying for them, according to court documents,The alleged incidents occurred between Oct. 14 and Dec. 6. The value of the stolen merchandise totaled $437.92.Russell, who has two prior shoplifting convictions, was arraigned on charges and released on nonmonetary bond.
6:03 p.m. Friday — A car driven by Angela N. Stietenroth, 23, of Butler rear-ended another car on Route 8 just east of Lakeview Drive in Center Township. Gary A. Courtney, 58, of Butler was the other driver.No one was injured, but both vehicles had to be towed.Stietenroth was cited for driving with a suspended license, following too closely to another vehicle, failing to immediately notify police of an accident, failing to stop and render aid after an accident, driving too fast for conditions, careless driving, reckless driving and failing to carry her driver's license.12:43 a.m. Friday — Eden M. Peterson, 30, of Butler was injured when the vehicle she was driving crossed Brownsdale Road in Penn Township and traveled into a ravine, striking an embankment. The vehicle landed with its front facing the ground and its back in the air.Peterson was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries. Police cited her for disregarding traffic lanes.Aug. 13 — Connor F. Hinton, 24, of Oakland Township was charged with being more than twice the state's legal limit for alcohol in connection with a reported motorcycle crash days earlier in Oakland Township.Police said they were called for the wreck shortly before 10 p.m. Aug. 10 and eventually found Hinton pulling into a home on McGinley Road. The bike had several scrapes and dirt on it. He admitted he had crashed his motorcycle, according to court documents.Hinton eventually was taken for a breath test, which showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.161 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.He is charged with driving under the influence, disregarding traffic lanes, driving too fast for conditions and careless driving.1:10 a.m. Aug. 11 — Jordan N. Titus, 26, of Butler was arrested for DUI following a traffic stop on Benbrook Road in Center Township.Police said a breath test showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.156 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.Simmons is charged with DUI, careless driving, a lighting violation and littering.
Aug. 19 — Michael J. Churilla, 44, of Slippery Rock was charged with stealing merchandise in June from the Walmart on West Main Street Extension in Pine Township. The June 20 incident was caught on surveillance video.He is charged with two counts each of theft by deception, retail theft and driving with a suspended license.State Police, PunxsutawneyAug. 28 — The state police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement cited Veterans of Foreign Wars Joseph T. Black Post 249 in Butler for gambling-related violations. The alleged violations occurred between Feb. 2 and 13, and Jan. 31 to July 17.An administrative law judge will hear the case.
