Butler PoliceWednesday — Joshua W. Meehan, 33, of Butler was arrested in connection with a high-speed chase last week through several city streets.Police said an officer about 6:24 p.m. Saturday on West Cunningham Street spotted a car traveling with illegal yellow headlights. The officer attempted a traffic stop on Pillow Street, but the suspect, later identified as Meehan, sped away, according to court documents.The chase continued onto Eighth Avenue then Goldwood Avenue, through an alley, then back onto Pillow Street and West Cunningham Street, where the defendant cut through the Medicine Shoppe parking lot to avoid several stopped vehicles at a red light.Meehan then turned onto South Chestnut Street, documents said, where he nearly struck several vehicles at another red light. He continued east on West Wayne Street and south on Route 8, where the officer decided to end the chase.Police used the license plate of the suspect’s vehicle to help lead them to him. When the investigating officer asked Meehan why he fled, documents said, he replied that he “just snapped and took off.”He was arraigned on a felony charge of fleeing or attempting to elude police, and summary charges of driving with a suspended license-DUI related, reckless driving and a lighting violation. He was released on his own recognizance following arraignment.
Grove City Police9 a.m. Monday — A 17- year-old boy allegedly started a bogus rumor about a shooting at Grove City High School.The false report, according to a police report, caused “disruption and alarm to the school environment as it was being spread around the Grove City and Lakeview school districts and the Mercer County Career Center.”The Grove City area boy, who police did not identify, is charged in Butler County juvenile court with making false reports.
State Police, Butler6:11 p.m. Wednesday — No one was injured in a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 79 northbound in Cranberry Township. The unknown driver while changing lanes collided with a pickup truck driven by Robert C. Skelly, 46, of North Chesterfield, Va.The suspect did not stop and his vehicle was last seen taking the Route 228 exit.Wednesday — Police reported they are investigating a suspected sexual assault at The Grove apartments on Harmony Road in Slippery Rock Township. The alleged assault occurred between Nov. 16 and 19 at the home of the suspect, a 22-year-old man who police did not identify.According to a police report, both the suspect and the victim, a 20-year-old Bethel Park, Allegheny County, woman, were under the influence of marijuana when the alleged assault occurred. No other information was available.Monday — Police charged Tyler Lee Stadelman, 20, of Pittsburgh with drunken driving in connection with a traffic stop Oct. 22 in Slippery Rock Township. Troopers stopped the suspect after he allegedly smoked his tires while traveling on Harmony Road.Stadelman, who reeked of alcohol, admitted that he had “6 or 7 beers,” according to a police affidavit. He was arrested after failing field sobriety tests.A breath test showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.191 percent. In Pennsylvania, the legal limit for someone under 21 is 0.02 percent.In addition to driving under the influence, Stadelman is charged with underage drinking.Monday — Mark A. Cresswell, 19, of Mercer was charged with drugged driving stemming from four-vehicle wreck Oct. 22 in Slippery Rock Township.Police said the chain-reaction crash happened when Cresswell’s sport utility vehicle rear-ended another vehicle on Stadium Drive at Harmony Road. The collision forced the other vehicle, which was stopped, into the back of a third vehicle that also was stopped.The third vehicle, in turn, was forced onto Harmony Road and into a fourth vehicle.Cresswell, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to Grove City Medical Center with minor injuries.At the crash scene, according to court documents, police noticed what appeared to be marijuana in the center console of the suspect’s SUV. On the floor, they found a marijuana grinder.Results of a blood test subsequently showed Cresswell had marijuana and the anti-anxiety medication alprazolam in his system, documents said.He is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, following too closely to another vehicle, driving too fast for conditions, careless driving and a seat belt violation.
State Police, KittanningWednesday — Police reported they have a suspect, a 29-year-old Worthington woman, in connection with an ongoing fraud and forgery investigation of an employee at a nursing home in Sugarcreek Township.The suspect, who police did not identify, while employed at the Sugar Creek Rest facility between July 7, 2015, and Sept. 1 of this year, obtained the checkbook belonging to a resident, a 71-year-old Worthington woman.Police said the suspect wrote out four checks made payable to herself. She then deposited the checks, which totaled $1,000, into her personal bank account.
State Police, New Castle7:49 a.m. Nov. 17 — A sport utility vehicle driven by Rachel M. Jordan, 24, of Wexford rear-ended another SUV, driven by Michael P. Bruderly, 48, of Salem, Ohio, on Route 422 just east of State Road in Slippery Rick Township, Lawrence County.In turn, police said, the wreck forced Bruderly’s vehicle into the back of a pickup truck driven by William H. Lage, 61, of Renfrew. Bruderly and Lage were both stopped at a red light at the time of the crash.Police cited Jordan for careless driving.
