Butler Police12:28 p.m. Monday — David T. Digiacomo, 37, was arrested after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend, Christine McLaughlin, during a domestic dispute at their apartment on Hansen Avenue. McLaughlin told police that she and Digiacomo were arguing when he hit her in the mouth as she was lighting a cigarette. She suffered a broken tooth and swollen lip. The defendant was arraigned on a charge of simple assault and placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail.Monday — Sheldon Lee Hile, 19, of Allison Park, Allegheny County, was charged with driving under the influence after an April 3 traffic stop at Pepperland Boulevard.Police said they stopped Hile’s vehicle for several traffic violations about 5:05 a.m. He appeared impaired but denied taking any drugs or drinking any alcohol. An officer, however, noted smelling a “strong odor” of alcohol on Hile’s breath, court documents said. The suspect refused to submit to a blood test and was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital.In addition to DUI, Hile is charged with underage drinking, driving with a suspended license and careless driving.Monday — Police charged Robert A. Dubois, 27, of Slippery Rock Township with drunken and drugged driving after being stopped about 4:20 a.m. March 19 for erratic driving at West New Castle Street and Fifth Avenue. He smelled of alcohol and admitted having “a few beers,” according to court documents. An officer noticed a 12-ounce can of beer, full and cold, in the center console cup holder.The suspect failed field sobriety tests and was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology reports showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.171 percent, more than twice the state’s 0.08 percent legal limit, and marijuana in his system. Dubois is charged with DUI, driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol, driving on the wrong side of the road, failing to stop at a flashing red light, driving without insurance and driving with an open container of alcohol.
Cranberry Twp. PoliceApril 8 — Police obtained an arrest warrant for Michael C. Loewel, 35, of Cranberry Township for retail theft in multiple incidents. Loewel is accused of stealing a computer on Jan. 12 from Wal-Mart on Route 19 and on Jan. 14 stealing a stereo and home theater system valued at $347 from the same store, according to court records. Derron J. Englert of Pittsburgh, also charged in the Jan. 14 theft, identified Loewel to police after viewing surveillance video from the store during his preliminary hearing April 1. Loewel faces felony retail theft and receiving stolen property charges. He has nine prior retail theft convictions.April 14 —Police obtained an arrest warrant for Jeffrey L. Geiger, 43, of Ellwood City who is accused of stealing from his former employer Junk King in Cranberry Township. He was allegedly in possession of $2,200 in cash that he collected from a customer in December 2015 and never turned over, according to court records. He is charged with felony theft by failure to make required disposition of funds and felony receiving stolen property.
