5:15 p.m. Friday — No one was injured in a three-vehicle wreck on New Castle Road in front of Wendy’s restaurant. The crash happened when Russell E. Mowrey, 58, of Butler, failed to see other vehicles stopped in traffic ahead of him, police said.

Mowrey swerved to the shoulder and struck a vehicle driven by Josephine Williams, 56, of Butler. Mowrey’s vehicle traveled across the road and struck a vehicle driven by Nancy Cox, 62, of Butler. All three vehicles were towed.

Police cited Mowrey for driving too fast for conditions, careless driving and disregarding traffic zones.

April 21 — A man and woman, both of Allegheny County, were charged with stealing wooden pallets last month from the Golden Apple farmers’ market on Route 8. Police said they arrived there about 1:15 p.m. March 30 and found five pallets in the back of the suspects’ truck.

The defendants — Melvin Coburn, 52, of Braddock, and Tina Gordon, 50, of Turtle Creek — are both charged with misdemeanor counts of theft and receiving stolen property, and a summary count of trespass.

Police said Coburn, who allegedly gave a bogus name to the investigating officer, also is charged with false identification to law enforcement authorities

4:42 p.m. Thursday — No one was injured when a sport utility vehicle driven by Mary C. Cassandro, 59, of Valencia, struck a bucket truck on Route 68 just west of George Lane in Donegal Township. Thomas G. Landers, 57, of Bruin, was the other driver.

The SUV had to be towed. Cassandro was cited for disobeying traffic-control devices.

9:32 p.m. April 21 — Police arrested a New York man on drug charges after they got a call for a suspicious vehicle on the 300 block of East Portersville Road. A subsequent search of the vehicle, according to court documents, turned up three used syringes with suspected narcotic reside, 10 unused syringes, four crack pipes and a digital scale.

The suspect, Raymond M. Provorse, 25, of South Dayton, was arraigned on misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. Police also cited him for driving with a suspended license, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving a vehicle without valid inspection.

He was placed in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bond following arraignment.

April 21 — Carie M. Petroski, 49, of Saxonburg, was charged with bouncing a check earlier this year for vehicle repair work at Ivywood Garage on Saxonburg Boulevard in Clinton Township. She is accused of passing a check for $574.52 that was written on a closed account Jan. 24.

Petroski is charged with theft of services and bad checks, both misdemeanors.

April 20 — Nina E. Grossi, 21, of Butler was charged with drugged driving stemming from speeding stop last month in Muddy Creek Township. Police said they stopped her March 6 going 76 mph in a 55 mph zone on Route 422 near Pleasant Valley Road.

She was subsequently taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test that showed she had marijuana in her system. A search of her SUV, according to court documents, turned up a jar with suspected marijuana, a grinder and other contraband.

Grossi is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, speeding, disregarding traffic lanes, careless driving and not using low beams.

April 20 — Police charged Tyler J. Grosholz, 21, of Erie, with drugged driving stemming from speeding stop last month in Muddy Creek Township. Police said they stopped him March 6 going 79 mph in a 55 mph zone on Route 422 near Pleasant Valley Road.

He was subsequently taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test that showed he had marijuana in his system. A search of his car, according to court documents, turned up a plastic bag with suspected marijuana.

Grosholz is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana, speeding, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.
