12:28 a.m. Monday — Police nabbed a suspected shoplifter who turned out to be wanted on a warrant.Melissa Sue Graham, 21, of Summit Township is accused of snatching candy from the 7-Eleven store on Pillow Street, a police report said. Officers found her a short time later hiding in a stairwell leading to a home's basement.Police said Graham, who gave a bogus name after being caught, was found with suspected crack pipes and a used syringe. She was placed in Butler County Prison on a bench warrant issued Oct. 29 when she failed to appear in arraignment court.Police said she also faces new charges of retail theft, false identification to law enforcement authorities and possession of drug paraphernalia.Monday — An unknown thief overnight stole a Sirius radio from a pickup parked at a home in the 300 block of West Brady Street.
5:16 a.m. Monday — A thief stole a large box containing hunting and fishing equipment from a boat on a vehicle briefly left unattended in the Sheetz store parking lot on Evans City Road.State Police, ButlerMonday — Police charged two sisters accused of hitting or scratching each other during an Oct. 30 argument in the same vehicle on Herman Road in Summit Township. Barbara Gean Swartzwelder, 37, and Velma M. Swartzwelder, 41, both of Butler are charged with simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct.Thursday — Police accused Mary Sue Fotheringham, 52, of Tarentum, Allegheny County, with using a credit card and checks taken from the home of a Winfield Township woman to make several unauthorized purchases between Aug. 13 and Oct. 19.Fotheringham is charged with identity theft, access device fraud, forgery and theft.Wednesday — A Norscent brand, 27-inch LCD television, Samsung DVD player, Nintendo Game Cube and $140 was among the property stolen in a burglary between 7:30 and 10:50 p.m. at a Central Avenue home in Chicora.
2:09 a.m. Sunday — Two upstate New York men were hurt when their car hit a traffic sign, struck a ditch and rolled over several times on Interstate 79 in Springfield Township.The car, driven by Michael Brotosky, 19, of Rochester, landed on its roof. Brotosky and his passenger, Michael D. Jarvis, 19, of Henrietta, were taken to Grove City Medical Center with minor injuries. Police said both men were wearing seat belts.7:55 a.m. Friday — Five people were injured in a four-vehicle crash at Irishown Road and Route 58 in Pine Township.Police said the crash happened when a minivan driven by Alicia A. Phillips, 44, of New Castle pulled into the path of a car driven by Ruth Jaskol, 87, of Grove City. The vehicles collided, spinning Jaskol's car into a car driven by Michael T. Krupa, 33, of Jackson Center and a minivan driven by Dawn Yoho-Lenkner, 37, of Stoneboro.Phillips and two boys, ages 4 and 7, riding in her van, and Jaskol and her passenger, Joseph M. Jaskol, 87, of Grove City, were taken to Grove City Medical Center with minor to moderate injures. The drivers and passengers in all four vehicles were wearing seat belts or riding in child safety seats.Police said Phillips was cited for a stop sign violation.12:27 p.m. Nov. 1 — A sport utility vehicle driven by Lester Williamson, 75, of Petrolia crashed and rolled over, landing on its wheels on Bradley Road near Route 585 in Worth Township. Williamson, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered unknown injuries.
