3:11 a.m. April 22 — David Jay Thomas, 28, of Clinton Township was allegedly caught with marijuana after he and another man were found in a pickup truck at Porky’s Smoke House on Route 8.
Police said they noticed a large drinking cup with suspected marijuana in it, which was near Thomas’ feet on the front passenger side. A search of the truck also turned up two empty bags of suspected marijuana, a marijuana grinder and a marijuana pipe. Under the truck, documents said, was a digital scale with suspected marijuana residue on it.
Thomas is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. Tyler J. Marweg, 23, of Wexford, who was found in the driver’s seat, is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
[naviga:h2]Slippery Rock University Police[/naviga:h2]
April 24 — An Ohio teenager was charged with drugged driving under the influence of a controlled substance stemming from a traffic stop near the Smith Student Center. Police said Dontez D. Rash, 19, of Cleveland was pulled over for driving in a posted restricted area.
Police said the car reeked of marijuana and it appeared Rash was impaired. He admitted smoking marijuana “five hours ago” and that he had recently been sleeping, according to court documents.
He was subsequently arrested and taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results showed he had marijuana in his system.
Rash is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, disobeying traffic control devices and driving without insurance.
[naviga:h2]State Park Rangers[/naviga:h2]
1:45 p.m. April 23 — Joseph E. Snatchko, 27, of Sewickley, Allegheny County, was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a woman during an altercation at Moraine State Park in Muddy Creek Township.
Snatchko is accused of grabbing and hitting the victim, who suffered bruising on her face. He was arraigned on charges of simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment, and later released on his own recognizance.
[naviga:h2]State Police, Butler[/naviga:h2]
Monday — Police reported they are investigating a burglary at a Connoquenessing Township home last month. Unspecified medication and children’s toys were taken between April 15 and 18 from the home on Bennett Drive. There are no suspects in the break-in.
April 24 — Police charged a 30-year-old Erie woman with drugged driving in connection with a March traffic stop in Muddy Creek Township. Shytaya S. Barnes’ car was stopped about 5:30 p.m. March 30 on Interstate 79 where it was clocked traveling 81 mph in a 70 mph zone.
A trooper smelled a “strong odor” of marijuana when he got to the car, according to court documents. Barnes admitted she smoked marijuana in the vehicle about 90 minutes earlier, police said.
She was arrested following field sobriety tests and a drug recognition expert’s evaluation. A blood test report later confirmed the presence of marijuana in her system.
In addition to driving under the influence of a controlled substance, Barnes is charged with speeding and careless driving.
6:34 p.m. April 23 — A Lawrence County man was arrested for being more than three times the legal limit for alcohol after he reportedly struck a guardrail on I-79 in Muddy Creek Township.
Police said they found the suspect, Brian L. Murphy Jr., 28, of Edinburg, pulled off the road in a pickup truck that had two flat tires on the passenger side. The arresting trooper learned that Murphy’s license was suspended stemming from a previous drunken driving arrest, according to court documents.
He failed field sobriety tests and was eventually taken for a breath test, which showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.28 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.
Murphy is charged with DUI, driving with a suspended license-DUI related, driving without a license, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.
3:50 a.m. April 23 — Bernard B. King, 24, of Jefferson Hills, Allegheny County, was arrested following an altercation with troopers at a Slippery Rock business.
Police said they were called to Slippery Rock Towing and Repair on North Main Street for a pair of men screaming at the owner. The men were demanding their vehicle back but could not pay for services, according to court documents. The owner told them to leave but they refused.
Troopers got there and found King and another man standing in the entry way of the shop. The officers told both men to walk out of the building.
Police did not identify the other man, who walked out. But King refused to leave, court documents said. He then took an “aggressive stance” as one of the troopers approached him. He told the officer, “Don’t.”
When the trooper grabbed King’s wrist, documents said, the defendant tried to push the officer away. The suspect was eventually taken to the ground and continued to wrestle with police while flailing his arms.
King was arraigned on charges of resisting arrest, defiant trespass and disorderly conduct. He remains free on $30,000 unsecured bail.
10:45 p.m. April 20 — A 49-year-old out-of-stater was arrested for drunken driving after a one-vehicle crash in Slippery Rock Township. Police said Steven D. Blaschke, of Avon, Ind., traveled off Cemetery Road and got stuck in the grass.
Blaschke smelled badly of alcohol and showed signs of being intoxicated, court documents said. Following a series of failed field sobriety tests, he was taken for a breath test. The test showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.162 percent.
He is charged with DUI, failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.
