Butler Police
6:05 p.m. Monday — Daniel R. Hoessler, 44, of Renfrew was hurt when a car collided with a pickup truck he was driving at West Jefferson and Washington streets. Hoessler, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries. Steven Fusaro-Podobensky, 25, of Butler was the other driver.
11:05 p.m. Saturday — Evan R. Long, 25, of Center Township was hurt when the sport utility vehicle he was driving rolled onto its side after colliding with a car and hitting a tree at North Main and Pearl streets.
Long, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries. Corey R. Helfrich, 33, of Clay Township was driving the car.
10:18 p.m. Saturday — Jessica M. Cozin, 18, is accused of smoking marijuana in front of her two younger siblings at the family’s home in the 900 block of West New Castle Street.
Cozin’s mother and stepfather called police after they allegedly found her smoking marijuana on the front porch. Also on the porch were her siblings, ages 12 and 14.
According to a police report, Cozin was allegedly enticing the 14-year-old to smoke with her.
When police got there they found the suspect in her room. She admitted smoking marijuana in front of her siblings, the report said. She also turned over a marijuana pipe.
Cozin is charged with two counts of corruption of minors and possession of drug paraphernalia.
6:12 p.m. Wednesday — Robert E. Fair, 34, of Homestead, Allegheny County, was arrested after he allegedly tried to sell Ritalin in the 100 block of Goldwood Avenue.
A man called police to report the suspect was outside his home and “offered to sell him Ritalin,” according to court documents. Police got there and found Fair, who matched the description of the suspect.
Police searched Fair and found a used syringe, 10 Ritalin tablets in a cigarette pack, a stamp bag of suspected heroin and other drug contraband, documents said.
Fair was arraigned on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail following arraignment.
Butler Twp Police
Monday — Police charged Matthew D. Ramsey, 44, of Ellwood City with taking a car May 31 from a home in the 100 block of Greenwood Drive without the owner’s permission.
Ramsey is charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle and driving with a suspended license.
3:25 a.m. Friday — James F. Cunningham, 33, of Butler was arrested on charges he broke into vehicles in and around Home Avenue. He allegedly stole items from the vehicles.
Cunningham was arraigned on three counts each of theft from a vehicle and loitering and prowling at night, two counts of receiving stolen property, and charges of possession of a controlled substance and a prohibited offensive weapon, and public drunkenness.
He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $15,000 bail following arraignment.
Later, police said, they linked Cunningham to the theft of a large landscaping stone from a property on Acre Avenue. He allegedly threw the stone through the window of a car. Police charged him in that case with theft, criminal mischief and loitering and prowling at night.
Friday — Nathan D. Calcagni, 27, of Lyndora was arrested after he allegedly used a credit card, without the owner’s authorization, at the three stores at the Butler Commons and Butler Crossing shopping plazas.
Police said they used surveillance video to identify Calcagni.
The suspect was arraigned on two felony counts of forgery and three misdemeanor counts of access device fraud. He also is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail following arraignment.
1:51 p.m. June 1 — Randall Craig, 26, of Butler was hurt when the car he was driving struck the side of another vehicle at Whitestown and Meridian roads. Craig, who suffered a minor injury, was cited for not stopping at a red light. Aimee Kelly, 37, of Butler was the other driver.
Grove City Police
Monday — Police are investigating a fake IRS scam that targeted a Grove City man.
The victim told authorities that a man claiming to work for the IRS called him and claimed that he owed “a large sum of money that needed to be paid,” according to a police report.
The man sent a MoneyGram as instructed. He later notified police.
Monday — Police cited the Burger King restaurant on West Main Street stemming from a false alarm activation at 12:15 a.m. Friday. According to a police report, it was the third false alarm there in the past 12 months.
7:33 a.m. Saturday — Jordan B. Matthews, 20, of Kennerdell, Venango County, was caught driving a vehicle with an expired registration but with a license plate that displayed a current registration sticker, following a traffic stop at West Pine Street near College Avenue.
Police said Matthews was cited for falsification of a registration plate and driving an unregistered vehicle.
Saturday — A women’s wallet, white with a black pattern, was stolen from inside a business in the 400 block of Hillcrest Circle. The wallet, which contained about $40 in currency, was taken between the hours of 6:30 and 10 p.m. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-458-7925.
State Police, Butler
1:30 a.m. Sunday — Justin R. Dean, 25, of Connoquenessing lost control of his vehicle and crashed on Reibold Road at Ruby Lane in Forward Township. Police said he left the scene after the wreck.
Police cited Dean for hit-and-run and driving on the wrong side of the road.
Saturday — An unknown thief reportedly stole a black safe containing $150 worth of prescription medication from a house on Queen Junction Road in Clay Township. The theft happened between 6:30 and 10:45 p.m.
State Police, Kittanning
9:58 p.m. Sunday — Two people were hurt in a head-on collision in East Franklin Township. The crash happened on the Route 28 exit ramp to Route 422.
Both drivers, Susan M. Flick and Jonah D. Hawk, no ages or addresses given, were taken to ACMH Hospital in East Franklin Township with moderate injuries. Flick was wearing a set belt; Hawk was not. Police said their investigation continues.
5:55 p.m. Friday — Brian M. Velez Jr., 27, of Templeton was hurt in a rollover wreck in Valley Township. Police said Velez lost control of his sport utility vehicle while going around a left-hand curve on Route 85.
The SUV struck an embankment and rolled over, ending on its driver’s side. Velez, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to ACMH Hospital with minor injuries.
Police cited Velez for driving at an unsafe speed, disregarding traffic lanes and passing in a no-passing zone.
State Police, Punxsutawney
Friday — The state police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement cited Snack-N-Pack on East Jefferson Street in Butler for allegedly selling to a minor on May 5. An administrative law judge will hear the case.
