Butler Twp PoliceWednesday — Police charged Rhonda L. Claypoole, 24, of Worthington, Armstrong County, with shoplifting $500 in merchandise about 11:15 a.m. June 14 at the Walmart at Butler Commons. She is charged with retail theft and defiant trespass.Tuesday — Angel M. Bobbert, 22, was charged with growing a marijuana plant at her apartment in the township’s Highfield section and lying to police stemming from a June incident in which her boyfriend was charged.Officers were initially called to Bobbert’s home on Linhurst Avenue for a domestic dispute. Police said they found Bobbert and Anthony M. Puglisi, 25, of Butler Township at the apartment.Bobbert led officers to the basement, where they found a marijuana plant that she claimed belonged to Puglisi, her boyfriend. Police said they also found 94 empty bags of suspected heroin.Based on the evidence at the time, police charged Puglisi with manufacture of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.But at Puglisi’s preliminary hearing on July 7, Bobbert refused to testify against him. She subsequently rescinded the sworn statement she had previously given police and admitted the plant was hers. She blamed her boyfriend because she was upset with him, the report said.Police, in turn, withdrew their case against Puglisi and charged Bobbert with manufacture of a controlled substance and making a false report to law enforcement authorities.Tuesday — Police filed misdemeanor drug charges against three people in connection with a traffic stop about 10 p.m. June 8 at the Butler Commons’ Walmart parking lot. The stop led to the finding of marijuana and other contraband.Charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia are Eric T. Defelice, 20, and Mia S. Kopps, 20, both of Lyndora, and Steven S. Defelice Jr., 30, of Butler.

State Police, Franklin4:57 p.m. Monday — A 33-year-old man was seriously injured when his pickup truck crashed in Emlenton. Charles A. McVay of Franklin was taken to UPMC Northwest in Seneca following the wreck on Kerr Avenue north of Center Street.Police described McVay’s injuries as “major” but his condition was not known this morning.McVay lost control of his pickup northbound on Kerr Avenue and crossed the opposing lane, traveling up the sidewalk and hitting a utility pole and fence. He was not wearing a seat belt.The Emlenton Volunteer Fire Department and Emlenton Ambulance assisted police.

State Police, KittanningWednesday — Police reported that alcohol and prescription drugs are suspected factors in the death of a 40-year-old Freeport woman in the borough. Nicole George was found unresponsive on High Street in Freeport and was later pronounced dead.Police believe she died between 1 and 7 a.m. Investigators, including the Armstrong County coroner, are awaiting the results of autopsy and toxicology testing.12:34 a.m. Tuesday — A 55-year-old Templeton man, who police did not identify, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on River Road in Cowanshannock Township. Charges are pending following lab tests.6:15 p.m. Monday — A multitool was found on the side of Route 28 south about one-quarter mile south of Route 422 in East Franklin Township. The owner can claim the property by calling police at 724-543-2011.4:45 p.m. Monday — A 46-year-old Templeton woman was arrested for suspected shoplifting at the Hilltop Plaza Walmart in East Franklin Township. The woman, who police did not identify, also was in possession of suspected marijuana. Retail theft and drug possession charges are pending2:40 a.m. July 5 — A 49-year-old Kittanning man, who police did not identify, was arrested for suspicion of DUI on Route 422 in North Buffalo Township.

State Police, PunxsutawneyWednesday — The state police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement cited Birch’s BBQ on South Chestnut Street in Butler for allegedly violating the state liquor law on several occasions between Jan. 1 and May 25 2015. Police said the business failed to pay $9,399 in sales tax and $2,966 in employer withholding tax, and it also did not file sales tax returns with the state Department of Revenue.An administrative law judge will hear the case.
