Monday — Gary W. Brothers, 60, of Summit Township was charged with driving under the influence in connection with a minor accident about 7:35 p.m. Nov. 30 when he backed into a parked car at South Main and Campbell streets.Officers said they smelled alcohol on the suspect's breath while speaking to him. He failed several field sobriety tests and was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test, which showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.181 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.Saturday — An unknown thief made off with a snow shovel from a porch in the 100 block of Ridge Avenue. The shovel, valued at $20, was taken overnight.9:49 p.m. Friday — Cars driven by Natasha S. McNeil, 25, of Pittsburgh and Heather L. Abbott, 23, of Butler collided at Wayne and McKean streets. Police cited McNeil for not stopping at a red light.6:15 p.m. Friday — Jesse J. Almendariz Jr., 28, of Butler Township faces drug charges after he was caught with suspected heroin and Suboxone at the Family Dollar store in the Pullman Square shopping plaza.Employees stopped Almendariz after he set off the security alarm while leaving the store, according to a police report. When the suspect would not empty his pockets, an employee notified police.Officers got there and found Almendariz with a cigarette pack that contained four stamp bags of suspected heroin and a Suboxone strip, police said. He also had 13 empty stamp bags.Almendariz is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and a lone count of possession of drug paraphernalia.5:20 p.m. Friday — An elderly Jefferson Township woman was hurt in a rear-end collision at Cunningham and Second streets. Police said the crash happened when a car driven by Jeffrey J. Ridgway, 40, of Butler struck the back of a car driven by Andrew H. Ringer, 85, of Jefferson Township.Ringer's passenger, 82-year-old Dorothy Ringer, complained of neck pain after the accident, a police report said.3:53 p.m. Friday — Glenn A. Cummins, 49, of Hilliards was arrested after he was found staggering in the Pullman Square parking lot. Police got there and found the suspect leaning against a parked car and holding a knife.Officers ordered Cummins to drop the knife, according to a police report. Eventually, he let go of it and was taken into custody. Police later cited him for public drunkenness.During the investigation, police learned there was an arrest warrant for Cummins on an aggravated assault charge in Ambridge, Beaver County. However, police in Ambridge told officers that they would not take custody of Cummins, the report said.Friday — Police filed felony fleeing and drunken driving charges against David L. Shoup Jr., 29, of Summit Township stemming from a short chase in the city Nov. 9.A patrol officer about 10:30 p.m. tried to stop the suspect on Center Avenue after learning his license was expired. The officer activated his emergency lights but Shoup did not stop, according to court documents.Shoup turned onto Michael Avenue and again onto Brown Avenue, prompting the officer to activate his siren. The suspect, however, continued onto Glenn and Fairview avenues, stopping briefly at the intersection with Center Avenue, where he allegedly ran a red light.The defendant turned onto the Wayne Street bridge before stopping at the intersection with McKean Street, documents said. Shoup got out of his car and police immediately took him into custody him.Police said they suspected Shoup was intoxicated and took him to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. A toxicology report showed his blood-alcohol was 0.185 percent, nearly double the state's legal limit, documents said.Shoup is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police, a felony. Additionally, he is charged with DUI, driving with a blood-alcohol level of more than 0.02 percent while his license is suspended, failing to stop at a red light and driving a vehicle without valid inspection.1:25 a.m. Thursday — Kevin M. Victor, 24, was arrested after allegedly assaulting Samantha Reott following a domestic dispute at his home in the 400 block of Negley Avenue. Reott told police that Victor threw her onto a bed, punched her in the head and spit in her face, according to court documents.Victor, who is charged with simple assault, is free on $3,000 bail.
1:14 a.m. Sunday — A vehicle driven by Nicholas J. Rodgers, 24, of Butler crashed into a fence on Armco Drive. AK Steel owns the fence. Police cited Rodgers for driving too fast for conditions.1:30 p.m. Saturday — Sarah Irion, 19, of Butler lost control of her car and crashed on snow-covered McCalmont Road. The car went off the road, hit an embankment and tree, and ended overturned in woods.9:51 p.m. Friday — Andrew C. Sykes, 22, of Butler lost control of his vehicle and struck a guardrail on Route 8 South near the Picklegate crossing. Police cited Sykes for careless driving.6:02 p.m. Thursday — A car driven by Cindy Swigart, 54, of Butler and a sport utility vehicle driven by Marsha Lipnichan, 57, of Chicora collided at New Castle and Hindman roads.Police said Swigart's car did not have headlights lit and possibly sustained an unknown mechanical problem before the collision. Both vehicles had heavy damage.
12:54 a.m. Friday — Mark W. Zimmer, 47, of Cranberry Township was arrested for driving under the influence on Route 228 at Myoma Road. In addition to DUI, he was cited for driving without a license and disregarding traffic lanes.Zimmer was arraigned on charges and placed in the Butler County Prison on $3,000 bail. Police said he also was jailed in connection with a warrant from Allegheny County.
11:45 a.m. Saturday — One person was injured when a car spun out and crashed into an embankment on snow-covered Interstate 79 in Worth Township. Cheryln Dick-Gotham, 64, of Scottsville, N.Y., a passenger in the car, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with a minor injury. Police said the driver, Eric S. Young, 40, of Scottsville, was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
Saturday — An unknown burglar stole several rings from a home in the 500 block of Baker School Road in Toby Township. The break-in happened between Sept. 16 and Saturday.10:20 a.m. Friday — A Butler man's car was struck in a hit-and-run crash in Paint Township. The wreck happened when an unidentified tractor-trailer swung wide while turning on Route 322 at North Paint Boulevard, hitting 40-year-old James J. Williams' car that was stopped to make a turn. The unknown driver of the rig did not stop.
