Butler Police12:21 a.m. Sunday — Shannon L. Podobnik, 39, was allegedly caught with four ecstasy pills and marijuana cigarettes in a vehicle at her home on the 300 block of South Main Street.Police said they went to the home following a 911 hang-up. They found Podobnik in a car, acting strangely. She admitted to smoking marijuana, according to court documents.Officers allegedly found a marijuana joint on the car’s front passenger seat. A search of Podobnik, documents said, turned up a pill bottle containing ecstasy pills and another joint.She is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
State Police, Butler5:50 a.m. Thursday — A two-vehicle crash left a woman and child injured in Portersville. Brittany M. Burnett, 28, one of the drivers, and her passenger, a 3-year-old boy, both of New Castle, were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with apparent minor injuries.Police said the other driver, Timothy J. Hinchberger, 63, of Prospect ran a stop sign at Routes 488 and 19 and collided with Burnett’s car, which continued into a tree. Both drivers were wearing sweat belts and the boy was in a child safety seat.Police cited Hinchberger for a stop sign violation.Wednesday — A fugitive wanted in California turned himself in to police at the barracks in Butler Township. Justin D. Stafford, 28, formerly of Bakersfield, Calif., who is homeless, told police that there was a parole warrant out for him.A trooper checked and confirmed the warrant for an underlying charge of burglary issued by the Superior Court of California. Police said California authorities plan to seek extradition.District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned Stafford on a charge of being a parole absconder. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail.Monday — Joshua L. Pengryn, 21, of Butler was charged with drugged driving stemming from a January traffic stop at Mercer Street and Maryland Avenue in Butler. Police said they pulled him over around 7 p.m. Jan. 29 for speeding.Pengryn failed field sobriety testing, according to court documents, and he was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results showed he had marijuana in his system.He is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, speeding, careless driving and reckless driving.Monday — Police charged Justin R. Dean with drunken driving in connection with a traffic stop last month in Butler. He was stopped around 12:20 a.m. May 22 after allegedly running a red light on New Castle Street.Dean showed impairment during field sobriety tests and he was taken for a breath test that indicated his blood-alcohol level was 0.128 percent, according to court documents. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.In addition to DUI, Dean is charged with failing to stop at a red light and careless driving.8:43 a.m. June 1 — Three people were hurt in a two-vehicle collision on Route 422 just east of the Jefferson Street exit in Summit Township. The crash occurred when a minivan driven by Kristin A. Trenney, 28, of Vandergrift, Westmoreland County, struck a sport utility vehicle that had slowed down at a construction site.The van hit the SUV driven by Linda K. Jackson, 76, of Apollo, Armstrong County. Trenney’s two passengers — Cheyana M. McCall, 23, of Lower Burrell, Westmoreland County; and Charlane R. Wirick, 66, of Vandergrift — were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.Jackson’s passenger, Barbara J. Pinto, 82, of Leechburg, Armstrong County, was also taken to the Butler hospital with apparent minor injuries. Both vehicles had to be towed.Police cited Trenney for following too closely to another vehicle, driving too fast for conditions, careless driving and reckless driving.5:18 p.m. May 30 — A car driven by Karlee J. Weaver, 25, of Parker struck a sport utility vehicle on Hooker Road Concord Township. Amelia G. Brown, 18, of Karns City was the other driver.Police cited Weaver for disregarding traffic lanes.12:21 a.m. May 30 — Brandon E. Reep, 45, of Karns City was injured after he lost control of his SUV and struck a tree along Route 38 just north of Hooker Road in Concord Township. Police said he fled the scene.Reep is charged with hit-and-run, failing to immediately notify police of an accident, abandoning a vehicle on a road, driving at an unsafe speed, careless driving, disregarding traffic lanes and driving on the wrong side of the road.May 30 — Derek J. Ezatoff, 27, of Butler was charged with driving on drugs in connection with a call earlier in the month for an unconscious man behind the wheel of a running car at Eagle Mill Road and Route 422 in Franklin Township.Police said they found Ezatoff in the driver’s seat of the car around 6:30 p.m. May 14. He told a trooper that he had “dozed off,” according to court documents, and he admitted he injected two bags of heroin before driving.He allegedly failed field sobriety tests and was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results allegedly showed he had multiple drugs in his system, including fentanyl and marijuana.Ezatoff is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, careless driving, failing to use hazard lights and a seat belt violation.May 30 — Police charged a Mercer County man with being more than twice the state’s legal limit for alcohol stemming from a one-vehicle wreck earlier in the month in Worth Township. Tyler J. Greggs, 25, of Mercer crashed his sport utility vehicle into a ditch around 8:30 p.m. May 10 on Barron Road, police said.Police said Greggs was treated at Grove City Medical Center for undisclosed injuries in the wreck. He admitted that he had “a few beers” before the crash, according to court documents.The defendant consented to a blood draw at the hospital. Toxicology results allegedly showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.167 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.In addition to driving under the influence, he is charged with driving at an unsafe speed, disregarding traffic lanes, failing to keep right, careless driving and a seat belt violation.
