Butler Twp Police

Wednesday — A tool box with tools was found on the road near Zeigler Avenue. The owner can claim the property by calling police at 724-287-7744.

Butler Twp Police

4 p.m. Sunday — Marcus D. Register Jr., 43, of Butler was arrested after he was caught shoplifting $150 in merchandise from the Walmart at Butler Commons. Register, who has at least two prior convictions for shoplifting, was placed in the Butler County Prison to await arraignment on a felony county of retail theft.

9:19 a.m. Sunday — Brian Redick, 29, of Mercer lost control of his car on Route 8 south traveling over a curb before hitting a recreational vehicle in the parking lot of Butler Pre Owned. Redick was cited for driving too fast for conditions.

7:55 p.m. Saturday — Two Pittsburgh residents were arrested after they were caught allegedly shoplifting at the Butler Commons’ Walmart and found with suspected drugs and contraband.

Shawn E. Mertz, 22, and Amy M. Cook, 32, are both charged with retail theft, conspiracy to commit retail theft, and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

2:20 p.m. Saturday — A car driven by Cassandra Bianco, 20, of Renfrew rear-ended another vehicle on Whitestown Road at Villa Drive. Angela Moorehead, 21, of Butler was the other driver.

10:13 p.m. Friday — Alan M. Chambers, 29 of Butler was charged with indirect criminal contempt after allegedly violating a protection from abuse order.

Grove City Police

11:21 a.m. Friday — A Grove City College student from Massachusetts was caught with suspected drugs and other contraband at Alumni Hall on the Grove City College campus.

Matthew Nicholl, 22, of Marblehead is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

State Police, Kittanning

Feb. 10 — One youth stole unspecified property from another youth on Baker Street in Madison Township. Police did not identify either the suspect, who faces theft charges, or the victim.

State Police, Mercer

11:30 a.m. Saturday — Snowy and icy road conditions were blamed for a one-car wreck in Wolf Creek Township. Rebecca Mann, 25, of Oberlin, Ohio, lost control of the car and spun out, hitting a ditch and embankment on Interstate 80 east of Centertown Road.

1 a.m. Saturday — An Indiana man was driving to New York when his car went off the road, hit an embankment and got stuck in the snow. Police said they cited Adham A. El-Khatib, 30, of Fort Wayne with driving too fast for conditions.

State Police, New Castle

9:33 a.m. Sunday — No one was injured when a minivan filled with five passengers, four of them children, rear-ended a sport utility vehicle filled with six passengers in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County.

The crash happened on Route 422 west as Matthew T. Freiling, 21, of Marshall, Va., slowed to make a left turn onto Cooper Road. The van driven by Matthew M. McCosby, 39, of New Castle hit the back of Freiling’s SUV.

All 13 occupants in the two vehicles were wearing seat belts or in child safety seats.

Police said no charges were filed.

Sunday — Police continue to investigate last fall’s burglary of a home on West Lancaster Road in Perry Township, Lawrence County. The unknown burglar damaged numerous items during the alleged crime Nov. 25.

A police report did not indicate if anything was taken from the woman’s home.
