Butler Police6:13 a.m. Monday — Costen R. McKain, 20, of Butler allegedly drove away after the pickup truck he was driving struck a car at a home on the 400 block of Brown Avenue. Officers about 11 a.m. found the badly damaged truck at McKain’s home on the 200 block of East Rockenstein Avenue.The suspect, according to a police report, admitted hitting the car. He told officers that he didn’t stop because he was “scared,” the report said. He claimed he drove home immediately after the crash.McKain is charged with hit-and-run and careless driving.11:26 p.m. Friday — David M. Courson, 31, of Center Township was arrested after he allegedly broke into an apartment on the 300 block of Brown Avenue.A neighbor notified police and officers found Courson in the apartment. They believe he got inside by crawling through a bedroom window. The defendant knows the woman who lives at the apartment, according to court documents.Courson told police that he used to live at the apartment and was there to gather up his clothing. He also claimed he had the tenant’s permission to be there. The tenant, however, later denied that claim.Officers found in the suspect’s pocket a portion of the bedroom window screen that they believe he had cut to break into the home, documents said.Additionally, police found Courson with other alleged incriminating evidence including a knife, forceps and nail clippers. Tied to the nail clippers was a long string that was used to unlock the window, documents said.Courson was arraigned on charges of burglary, trespass, possessing instruments of crime and criminal mischief. He was placed in Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail following arraignment.9:32 p.m. Oct. 27 — Jonathan R. Smith, 26, of Butler was arrested for felony drug possession after police found him with more than an ounce of suspected marijuana. The discovery followed a traffic stop on the 500 block of West Cunningham Street.Police said after pulling over the suspect for having a broken taillight, officers smelled a “strong odor” of marijuana coming from his car. He handed over a baggie containing suspected marijuana, court documents said.When officers took the suspect out of the car they noticed two other baggies with suspected marijuana. A search of Smith turned up one additional baggie in a pants pocket.In all, documents said, the four baggies contained 31.6 grams, or 1.11 ounces, of suspected marijuanaSmith was arraigned on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. He is free on $3,000 bail.

Butler Twp PoliceMonday — Dewey G. Buzzard III, 29, of Saxonburg was charged in connection with a suspected heroin overdose last week in a rest room at Days Inn on Route 8 south.Police said they found Buzzard about 10 p.m. Oct. 25 with a stamp bag of suspected heroin. Officers also found an empty bag of suspected heroin in a toilet and a used hypodermic needle above the toilet.A Butler Ambulance Service crew treated Buzzard before he was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital. He is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.Friday — A black, Caterpillar excavator bucket was stolen from Alameda Park. The bucket, which was taken between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, was later found in the back loop of the park.

Grove City Police1:06 a.m. Sunday — Donald G. Haney, 22, of Cheswick, Allegheny County, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance after he was stopped for speeding on West Main Street. Police said Haney, in addition to drugged driving, faces charges of possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.Sunday — An unknown thief stole a blue and white BMX style bicycle on the 300 block of Edgewood Avenue. The bike was taken between Friday and Sunday. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-458-7925.6:30 a.m. Thursday — A pink and camouflage Barnett crossbow, valued at $400 was stolen from a vehicle on the 200 block of North Broad Street. The theft happened between Oct. 25 and Thursday. Anyone with information is asked to call police.8:16 p.m. Wednesday — Samuel J. McClelland, 38, of Grove City was caught with suspected drugs and other contraband after police were called to check on the welfare of an individual on the 600 block of Ridgeway Avenue. Police charged McClelland with possession of a controlled substance and three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

State Police, Butler8:22 a.m. Monday — Two women were hurt in a one-car crash in Lancaster Township. Leaha L. Greenawalt, 34, of Boyers lost control of the car on Interstate 79 just south of Sawyer Road and struck an embankment.Greenawalt and her passenger, Courtney R. Bombara, 26, of Hilliards, both suffered minor injuries. They were wearing seat belts.6:48 a.m. Monday — A sport utility vehicle driven by Kimberly A. Holcombe, 49, of Butler struck a deer on Route 8 just south of Davis Lane in Slippery Rock Township. Holcombe was not hurt but the crash disabled her SUV.Monday — Several items including money and prescription medication were stolen from three unlocked vehicles on the 200 block of Crestview Road and the 100 block of Beach Drive in Slippery Rock Township. The theft happened between 10 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 a.m. Monday.Later, according to a police report, troopers found Chelsea L. Ringler, 21, of Butler and a Slippery Rock woman with a Nexus 7 tablet that was taken from one of the vehicles. The Mercer County Children and Youth Services agency owns the electronic tablet.Police said Ringler was taken to Butler County Prison on a charge of receiving stolen property. The report did not say if the other woman will be charged in connection with the suspected theft.11:56 p.m. Sunday — Frank J. Meyerl, 59, of Evans City was hurt when he lost control of his pickup and crashed into a guardrail on I-79 just north of Ehrman Road in Cranberry Township.Meyerl, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh with unknown injuries. Police said he faces a ticket for disregarding traffic lanes.11:15 a.m. Sunday — A two-vehicle crash in Jefferson Township left both drivers injured and in need of hospital treatment. The crash happened when Mary P. Cochrane, 85, of Butler pulled onto Route 356 from Bonniebrook Road and collided with a pickup truck.Cochrane was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh with unknown injuries. Brian A. Kummer, 42, of Butler, who was driving the pickup, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.Police said Cochrane faces a ticket for making an improper left turn.1 a.m. Saturday — An unknown hit-and-run driver damaged a yard and other property in a crash in Clay Township. The vehicle struck a metal clothes lines post and grazed a garage of the home on Route 138 just south of Idris Lane.The driver, while backing out of a grassy yard area, left ruts in the yard before fleeing.7:08 p.m. Friday — Alcohol is a suspected factor in a two-vehicle wreck that injured two Butler area men in Oakland Township. Police said Robert C. Gould, 52, was driving on Route 68 just west of Center Drive when his car struck the side of a pickup with an attached trailer.The other driver, Elwin G. Amrhein, 66, was backing up into his home when the crash happened. Gould and Amrhein, were both taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. They were wearing seat belts.A police report said Gould was suspected of driving under the influence. Toxicology results are pending any charges.4 p.m. Friday — Brittany A. Odell was hurt when the car she was driving rear-ended a small school bus that was stopped on Headland Road just east of Bent Creek Lane in Summit Township.No one on the bus, including two children, ages 8 and 9, and the driver, Wendy S. Donley, 58, was hurt. The car, after hitting the bus traveled into a large rock and a trailer home.Odell, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. Police cited her for driving too fast for conditions, disregarding traffic lane and improperly meeting or overtaking a school bus.6:15 p.m. Oct. 25 — A burglar broke into a 46-year-old man’s home on Fisher Road in Jefferson Township. A police report provided no other information.2:59 p.m. Oct. 25 — Larry W. Schmidt, 40, of Cabot was arrested for suspicion of DUI at the Herman Mini Mart on Herman Road in Summit Township.

State Police, Franklin4:40 p.m. Monday — One person was hurt in a two-vehicle wreck in Emlenton. The crash happened when a minivan driven by Richard Vogan, 81, of Clintonville traveled into the intersection of Main Street and Kerr Avenue and struck a car.Alexandra Klinger, 69, of Shippenville, a passenger in the car driven by Herbert Klinger, 72, of Shippenville, suffered unknown injuries. She was taken to UPMC Northwest hospital in Seneca. All three occupants in the vehicles were wearing seat belts.Police said Vogan was cited for a stop sign violation.

State Police, New Castle7:30 a.m. Monday — A car driven by Keith M. Pierce, 37, of New Castle struck a deer on Route 422 in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. No one was injured but the car had to be towed from the scene.
