Butler Police
Tuesday — Police charged Michael G. Watt, 38, of Butler in connection with a weekend incident that left a handicapped man injured.
The crash happened after Watt about 6:30 p.m. Friday had given 64-year-old Robert D. Peterman a ride home on Wyle Avenue. Peterman, who uses a walker, was getting out the front passenger door when Watt backed up, causing the door to hit the older man.
Peterman was knocked to the ground. According to a police report, Watt drove away, traveling south on Wyle Avenue.
Peterman was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries including a cut above the right eye and pain in the left hip.
Watt is charged with accidents involving injury and driving with a suspended license.
Tuesday — Krystal K. Krauchak, 26, of Oakland Township was charged with a pair of misdemeanors stemming from a suspected shoplifting arrest Feb. 7 at the Kmart store at Pullman Square.
Krauchak was caught putting clothing items in her purse, according to court documents, and she was stopped by store security. Police said they later searched her and found five used syringes, several empty stamp bags of suspected heroin and other contraband.
The defendant, who has one prior shoplifting conviction, is charged with retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Butler Twp Police
2:53 a.m. Tuesday — Two Butler women were hurt in a rollover crash on Delwood Road near Ox Cart Lane.
Haleigh Smith, 26, the driver, was treated at Butler Memorial Hospital for shoulder and hand injuries. Smith’s passenger, Schaylene Foy, 23, suffered a hand injury.
Police said Smith lost control of her sport utility vehicle, crossed the road and struck the embankment. The SUV rolled onto its roof. Police and volunteer firefighters were at the sene for about an hour.
Tuesday — George F. Huff, 64, of Butler was arraigned on charges that he entered his tenant’s home about 3 p.m. Feb. 4 and removed the front door from the rental house. A police report noted that Huff did not have the tenant’s permission to be in the home.
Huff is charged with felony trespass and misdemeanor disorderly conduct. He was released on his own recognizance following arraignment.
6:50 a.m. Monday — A pickup truck driven by John Mazurich, 47, of Butler crashed on the icy Picklegate Bridge. No one was injured but the pickup had to be towed away with moderate damage.
8:56 p.m. Sunday — A 15-year-old suspected shoplifter was arrested after allegedly stealing $65 worth of merchandise from the Kohl’s store at the Butler Crossing shopping plaza. The teenager, who police did not identify, is charged with retail theft.
State Police, Butler
6:36 p.m. Tuesday — A pickup truck driven by Shannon Beneviat, 36, of Pittsburgh crashed into a guardrail on Interstate 79 in Lancaster Township. Police cited Beneviat for disregarding traffic lanes.
8:10 a.m. Tuesday — Michael T. Maleski, 58, of Bruin lost control of his sport utility vehicle and struck a tree along Route 568 just south of O’Donnell Road in Donegal Township. He was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
8:50 p.m. Monday — Dylan J. Notaro, 18, of Boyers was hurt when a minivan he was riding in crashed at Branchton and Leonard roads in Washington Township. Notaro, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered unknown injuries. The driver, Donald A. Spintetti, 83, of Butler, was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
9 a.m. Feb. 8 — Three boys at the Summit Academy reform school on Herman Road in Summit Township face charges stemming from a fight over a cell phone.
Police did not identify the youths, two of whom are charged with simple assault and harassment. The other boy was cited only for harassment.
State Police, Kittanning
7 p.m. Sunday — A car driven by Taylor Z. Bizon, 21, of Allison Park, Allegheny County, crashed into a speed limit sign and embankment on Route 28 about one-half mile south of Exit 19 in North Buffalo Township. Police cited Bizon for disregarding traffic lanes.
3:30 p.m. Sunday — Six people were injured in a two-vehicle collision on Route 128 in South Buffalo Township. The crash happened when Victoria F. Walker, 21, of Cadogan lost control of her car and slid into a sport utility vehicle driven by Thomas B. Foster, 62, of Kittanning.
Taken to ACMH Hospital in East Franklin Township with minor injuries were Walker and her passenger, Alan J. Keller Jr., 25, of Pittsburgh; and Foster and his passengers, Romayne Foster, 60, of Kittanning; Majorie G. Lang, 73, of McGrann; and Kalynn M. Foster, 35, of Kittanning.
Police said neither Foster nor Keller was wearing a seat belt. Foster was cited for disregarding traffic lanes and a seat belt violation.
11 a.m. Sunday — Two suspected scrappers made off with copper pipe after breaking into a 67-year-old Freeport man’s home in Fawn Township, Allegheny County.
The suspects, both described as white men in their early 20s, pried open a rear door of the house and stripped the piping from the basement. The thieves made their getaway in a white, 1996 Nissan Altima.
Police estimated the cost of the crime in stolen property and damage at $500. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-543-2011.
Sunday — An unknown thief stole a wallet and set of keys from a 45-year-old man’s vehicle on Glade Run Road in North Buffalo Township. The theft happened between 12:01 and 4 a.m.
2:30 p.m. Friday — Lance Hromadik, 52, of Ford City was arrested after allegedly violating a 51-year-old Ford City woman’s protection from abuse order on Butler Road in East Franklin Township.
Police said Hromadik followed the woman from Kittanning to the state police barracks, where he was arrested.
Friday — Police are investigating a case of suspected sexting between a 15-year-old Templeton girl and an 18-year-old Templeton man.
A concerned parent notified authorities after learning that the teenagers had shared several sexually explicit texts and photos during several mutual conversations.
Police released no other information about the investigation.
12:24 p.m. Thursday — A Texas man landed in trouble with the law after he tried seeing his children at the Bradys Bend Township home of a 29-year-old Chicora woman who has a PFA against him.
Police said the suspect, Daniel Marksberry, 33, knocked on the door but the alleged victim, Pauline Villarreal, did not open it. A police report noted that Marksberry has no current known address. The last known address is in the state of Texas.
Authorities later charged Marksberry with the PFA violation.
12:22 a.m. Feb. 11 — Brandon M. Rosenberger, 25, of Kittanning was arrested after he allegedly broke into a home on Piper Drive in Manor Township and assaulted a 29-year-old Ford City woman and a 29-year-old Cadogan man.
Rosenberger is accused of prying open the front door and punching both victims, who were not identified in a police news release, and then fleeing the house. The woman and man at the house suffered minor injuries but refused medical treatment
Police searched for the suspect, who was found several hours later in Kittanning.
The defendant, who is in the Armstrong County Jail on $7,500 bail, is charged with burglary, trespass, resisting arrest, criminal mischief and harassment.
