POLICE REPORTS
Nov. 22 — Three people were charged after police allegedly found drugs in their vehicle during an Aug. 5 traffic stop on Route 8 near Mac's Route 8 Cafe in Butler Township.
Dalton J. Anthony, 20, of Butler, and Sheldon L. Hile, 25, of Allison Park, were charged with three counts of felony drug sales and one felony count of criminal conspiracy. Anthony additionally was charged with misdemeanor drug paraphernalia. A third person, Cortney A. Scott, 30, of Butler, was charged with misdemeanor drug possession.
Police said they stopped the vehicle after a check of its registration showed an insurance cancellation. Four people were inside. Hile was the driver. Anthony was the front-seat passenger. Scott and another woman, who has not been charged, were in the back seat.
Police said Hile was arrested on an outstanding warrant, during which time officers say they spotted syringes in the vehicle. Record checks also showed a bench warrant for Anthony.
Police searched the vehicle and its occupants. Police said they found cash in Hile's pocket, a digital scale and cash on Anthony, one bag of suspected heroin on Scott and a Sprite can in the center console containing two bags of suspected heroin, one bag of suspected crack cocaine and one bag of an unknown white powder.
Nov. 23 — George R. Hammond Jr., 63, of Cranberry Township, was charged with felony possession of stolen property, related to a stolen truck.Police said an automatic license plate reader spotted the truck Nov. 23 as it passed through the intersection of Cranberry Square Drive and Route 19 in Cranberry Township.Police later received a call from people detaining a man who they said they caught breaking into a vehicle. Police said they arrived and found Hammond to be the detained man.Police said during a search of Hammond, they found keys to a Ford, the same model as the stolen truck spotted earlier that day. Police said Hammond led them to his home, where the stolen truck was found.
Nov. 23 — Tierra J. Brady, 26, of Valencia, was charged with misdemeanor drug and paraphernalia possession following a vehicle crash on Route 228 near Route 8 in Middlesex Township.The vehicle was found in a creek, after it had run over an embankment. Police said Brady, the driver, was taken to Allegheny General Hospital for treatment. Staff allegedly told police they found seven stamp bags of heroin in her bra.Nov. 23 — Philip L. Covel, 48, of Butler, was charged with misdemeanor drug and paraphernalia possession, related to a Sept. 20 traffic stop on Route 8 in Middlesex Township.Police said they stopped the vehicle after seeing the vehicle's owner in the passenger seat. Police recognized the owner and found her to have an active arrest warrant.Police said they arrested the passenger and spoke with Covel, the driver. Police said they searched Covel and found seven stamp bags of suspected heroin. Inside the vehicle, police said they found two straws, which Covel admitted were used to snort heroin.
State Police, Butler7:01 p.m. Nov. 26 — Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on North Pike Road in Winfield Township.Police said a vehicle driven by Dean J. Matis, 56, of Butler, was speeding when it hit a patch of ice and went out of control, crashing into a vehicle driven by Maria L. Steinhagen, 69, of Butler.Police said Steinhagen and her passengers, Lyle V. Steinhagen, 70, of Butler and a 13-year-old Freeport girl, were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for suspected minor injuries.Police said Matis was not injured, but was cited accordingly.5:02 p.m. Nov. 26 — Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Centreville Pike near Maple Manor in Brady Township.Police said Martin A. McCommon, 40, of Butler, lost control of his vehicle, which then hit a home on Maple Manor. Police cited McCommon accordingly.7:45 p.m. Nov. 25 — Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Carbon Center Road near Game Reserve Road in Clearfield Township.Police said Eugene R. Somogy, 45, of Fenelton, is suspected of using a cellphone and driving too fast before driving off the road, hitting an embankment and a tree.Police said both Somogy and his passenger, a 14-year-old Fenelton girl, were taken by ambulance to a hospital. Police said Somogy's injuries were suspected of being serious, and the girl's were suspected of being minor.Somogy was cited for careless driving.10:59 a.m. Nov. 24 — Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Saxonburg Boulevard in Clinton Township.Police said Stephen T. Call, 24, of Renfrew, drove his vehicle into the rear of a vehicle driven by Christopher M. Jonczak, 33, of Freeport. Police said Call was taken by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital for evaluation of a suspected minor injury. Police said Jonczak suffered a suspected minor injury, but was not transported.Police cited Call accordingly.Nov. 23 — Dennis L. Beacom, 25, of Worthington, was charged with a first-offense DUI following a Nov. 9 traffic stop on Simon Drive near Headland Road in Jefferson Township.Police said they smelled alcohol on Beacom, and he was arrested. A later breath test allegedly showed Beacom's blood-alcohol content at .101%. In Pennsylvania, a level of .08% is considered intoxicated.Nov. 22 — Preston T. Carlsson, 25, of Butler, was charged with a first-offense DUI, stemming from an Oct. 10 traffic stop on Route 8 near Decatur Drive in Butler Township.Police said they smelled alcohol in the vehicle, and field sobriety tests showed Carlsson was impaired. A later blood test allegedly showed marijuana in Carlsson's system as well as a blood-alcohol content at .176%. In Pennsylvania, a level of .08% is considered intoxicated.Nov. 22 — Cody A. Brandon, 34, of Cherry Township, was charged with felony retail theft and misdemeanor possession of stolen property related to items taken from Walmart in Butler Township.A store employee told officers they saw a man take an electronic device valued at about $60. Police said they checked the registration of the vehicle in which the man left, which led to the identification of Brandon.Brandon has two retail theft convictions since 2005.
