POLICE REPORTS
The following items were collected from various police departments:
Dec. 30 — Brian G. Wiley, 32, of West Sunbury, was charged with a first-offense DUI stemming from a traffic stop Nov. 29.Police said Wiley was under investigation for an area disturbance and subsequently was found to be impaired.
Dec. 22 — Michael J. Kernan, 27, of Butler, was charged with a first-offense DUI stemming from a traffic stop Dec. 14 on Pittsburgh Road.Police said they stopped Kernan's vehicle after he was driving 95 mph in a 50-mph zone. Police said they smelled alcohol on Kernan's breath, and after a field sobriety test, Kernan was found to be impaired.Police said a later breath test showed Kernan's blood-alcohol content level to be 0.137%. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08% is considered intoxicated.
Dec. 28 — Cindy M. Jerome, 62, of Butler, was charged with retail theft in relation to an incident Nov. 23 in Center Township.Police said they responded to a call at Giant Eagle, where store officials say Jerome left without paying for $172 in groceries.Police said Jerome admitted to the theft.Dec. 28 — Jimmy Jacques Pierre, 31, of North Miami, Fla., was charged with a first-offense DUI stemming from a vehicle incident Dec. 27 in Center Township.Police said they were dispatched to a truck stuck in a grassy area off Holyoke Road, where they observed the operator, Jacques Pierre, unable to maintain his balance.According to police, Jacques Pierre said he consumed a Long Island alcoholic beverage, and multiple signs of impairment were observed in a field sobriety test.Dec. 27 — Derrick D. Cotten, 26, of Butler, was charged with simple assault and harassment in relation to an incident Dec. 24 in Cherry Township.Police said they responded to a call where a woman said Cotten grabbed her and slammed her head into a coffee table. Police said during the altercation Cotten said he should punch her in the stomach. Police said the woman was pregnant.Dec. 23 — Zachary D. Giles, 22, of Butler, was charged with a first-offense DUI in relation to a vehicle accident Nov. 26 in Center Township.Police said at the scene there was damage to a street sign and house siding which resulted from Giles' vehicle running into a utility pole. Police said they interviewed the passenger, who said Giles lost control of the vehicle and left the scene on foot.Police said they found Giles walking along the road. He told them improper tires caused the accident. Police said they smelled alcohol on his breath, and following a field sobriety test, Giles was found to be impaired.Police said a later breath test showed Giles' blood-alcohol content level to be 0.99%. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08% is considered intoxicated.Dec. 21 — Cheryl A. Garvin, 62, of Cabot, was charged with a first-offense DUI in regard to a vehicle accident Nov. 3 in Winfield Township.Police said they responded to a call about a two-vehicle accident around 4 p.m. Police said they smelled alcohol on Garvin's breath, and after a field sobriety test, Garvin was found to be impaired.Police said a later blood test showed traces of alcohol, ethanol, norfluoxetine and fluoxetine in Garvin's system.Dec. 21 — Mitchell W. Kelsea, 20, of Fenelton, was charged with a first-offense DUI and purchasing alcohol as a minor stemming from a traffic stop Dec. 18 in Fairview Township.Police said they initiated a traffic stop when a vehicle, driven by Kelsea, was swerving in a traffic lane. Police said upon stopping the vehicle they could smell alcohol on Kelsea's breath. Police said Kelsea then confessed to having 10 beers.Police said after a field sobriety test, Kelsea was found to be impaired. Police said a later breath test showed Kelsea's blood-alcohol content to be 0.164% and in Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08% is considered intoxicated.
