Butler Police2:10 p.m. Saturday — Amber R. Williams, 21, of Saxonburg and James Rock, 77, of East Butler were hurt when their cars collided at West Quarry and South Washington streets. Rock was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries.Williams, who suffered minor injuries, was cited for failing to keep right. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.2:21 p.m. Jan. 21 — A car driven by Miranda A. Williams, 19, of Butler struck a sport utility vehicle parked in the 200 block of Roosevelt Boulevard.3:31 p.m. Jan. 19 — A car driven by Daniel P. McConahy, 19, of Renfrew rear-ended another car at Wayne and South Main streets. Elaine M. Zang, 63, of Gibsonia was the other driver.
Butler Twp PoliceThursday — Police charged Megan J. Hoover, 21, of New Castle in connection with a hit-and-run crash about 9:10 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Butler Crossing shopping plaza parking lot. Hoover is accused of driving off after hitting another vehicle near the McDonald's restaurant.She is charged with an accident involving damage to an attended vehicle, a misdemeanor. Police also cited her for hit-and-run, failing to stop and give information or render aid and a stop sign violation.2 p.m. Wednesday — Nicole R. Desantis, 33, of Butler was caught allegedly leaving Giant Eagle at Moraine Pointe Plaza pushing a shopping cart filled with $256 in merchandise for which she had not paid.She is charged with retail theft and possession of a controlled substance, both misdemeanors.
State Police, ButlerTuesday — Police obtained a felony arrest warrant for Ryan M. Mazzanti, 34, of West Sunbury stemming from two suspected shoplifting incidents on consecutive days last month at a Center Township convenience store.Surveillance video at the Kwik Fill on Route 8 captured Mazzanti on Dec. 22 stealing and eating a sandwich without paying for the item, according to court documents. The next day, police said, he pilfered a drink and cheddar fries.Because of his past record, Mazzanti faces two felony counts of retail theft and two misdemeanor counts of receiving stolen property.Tuesday — Stacy D. Pry, 27, of Prospect was charged with drunken driving in connection with a traffic stop about 2:30 a.m. Jan. 17 on Route 8 in Center Township. Police suspected she was impaired.That suspicion was confirmed, documents said, when she failed several field sobriety tests. A breath test later showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.106 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated for drivers.Pry is charged with driving under the influence, disregarding traffic lanes, driving at an unsafe speed and careless driving.Jan. 19 — Police obtained an arrest warrant for Nathan G. Sommers, 34, of Butler, stemming from last year's suspected break-in of a house and garage in Worth Township.Sommers is accused of stealing several items from the vacant property on Mourning Drive in the break-in that happened between Aug. 31 and Sept. 4. He is charged with burglary, trespass, theft and receiving stolen property.Jan. 19 — Police charged Bowen G. Bly, 23, of Parker with drunken and drugged driving in connection with a one-vehicle crash Jan. 5 in Chicora.Bly lost control of his car and wrecked at Main and Kittanning streets. The investigating trooper smelled a “strong odor” of alcohol coming from the suspect when they found him at the scene, according to court documents.He admitted having consumed “a few beers” and smoking marijuana earlier in the day, police said. The officer also searched him and found a suspected marijuana pipe.A blood test subsequently showed his blood-alcohol level at 0.138 percent, documents said. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.Bly is charged with driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and a controlled substance, possessing drug paraphernalia, failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.
