10:50 p.m. Friday — Donald E. Vargo, 43, of Butler was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a woman at her apartment in the 100 block of Fairview Avenue.
The victim, according to court documents, told police that Vargo called her a derogatory name and spit in her face, placed one of his hands on her neck and slammed her against a wall. She suffered red marks on her neck and a small scrape on a thumb.
Vargo was arraigned on a charge of simple assault and placed in Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail.
6:37 p.m. Friday — Katie A. Schultz, 34, of Butler was caught with 14 empty stamp bags of suspected heroin at a home on Cleveland Street. Police had gone to the home to investigate a reported theft.
Schultz is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
March 27 — Debra F. Micco, 50, of Butler was charged in a recent hit-and-run wreck in the 200 block of East Jefferson Street. She is accused of hitting a vehicle and driving away. The victim was in the vehicle at the time.
A witness saw the crash and followed the defendant’s car to her home, according to court documents.
Police went to Micco’s home and she admitted that she struck the other vehicle. She told police that she did not stop, documents said, “because of the bad road conditions.”
Her car had minor damage to the front passenger side bumper. The victim’s vehicle sustained minor damage to the rear driver’s side bumper and taillight.
Micco is charged with hit-and-run and driving with a suspended license.
5:02 p.m. March 23 — Gregory P. Mazzanti, 35, of Butler was caught with a drug-smoking pipe after police got a report of a man who was unconscious at a home on North Elm Street.
Butler firefighters and a Butler Ambulance Service crew also responded to the call and found Mazzanti, who appeared to be impaired on drugs and alcohol, according to court documents.
He was arrested and searched. Police said they found the drug pipe during the search. Mazzanti is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and public drunkenness.

Monday — Betty Fournaridis, 31, of West Sunbury was charged in a shoplifting incident last month at the Butler Commons’ Walmart.
Fournaridis is accused of attempting to leave the store March 22 with 38 items of merchandise valued at $405. She is charged with a misdemeanor count of retail theft.
2:08 p.m. Sunday — Jackson R. Blakely, 20, of Butler was caught with suspected marijuana and other contraband at the Comfort Inn on Comfort Lane. Police said they found him during an incident at the motel.
Blakely is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
9:11 a.m. Sunday — Christina M. Dreher, 25, of Butler allegedly shoplifted $219.30 in merchandise at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. She is charged with misdemeanor retail theft.
3:04 p.m. Thursday — Two students landed in trouble with the law for fighting at Butler Intermediate High School. The students, both 14-year-old boys, are each charged with disorderly conduct.
Thursday — Ryan L. Hewett, 35, of Cranberry Township was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a 38-year-old Butler woman during an altercation on Route 68. The woman suffered minor scrapes and bruises.
Hewett was arraigned on charges of simple assault and harassment, and placed in Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail.
March 23 — Police charged Michelle L. McGinty, 57, of Slippery Rock in the January hit-and-run crash involving a school bus on Lions Road.
McGinty was driving a pickup truck about 10:30 a.m. Jan. 30 when she tried to pass the bus on the left while both vehicles were southbound, according to a police report. The truck slid on the slippery road and hit the side of the bus. She did not stop.
Police said that on March 14 they identified McGinty as the truck driver. In addition to hit-and-run, she is charged with failing to stop and give information or render aid after an accident, improperly passing another vehicle and careless driver.

4:04 a.m. Tuesday — Rider T. Scott, 18, of Emlenton lost control of his sport utility vehicle when he swerved to miss a deer and struck a tree along Branchton Road just east of Chambers Road in Cherry Township. He was not hurt but his vehicle had to be towed.
March 28 — An Allegheny County woman was charged with being more than 3½ times the state’s legal limit for alcohol when she was pulled over last fall in Summit Township.
Police said they stopped Karen S. Ericcson, 59, of Natrona Heights about 11:15 p.m. Nov. 15 after they saw her sport utility vehicle crossed over both the white fog line and double yellow line several times on Route 38 near Route 68.
She denied having consumed any alcohol that evening but when she submitted to a portable breath test device, according to court documents, it showed alcohol in her system.
Police took Ericcson to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test, which indicated her blood-alcohol level was 0.30 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated.
She is charged with driving under the influence, failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.
March 27 — Police obtained an arrest warrant for a Lawrence County man accused of illegally attempting to buy a shotgun in December at a Summit Township gun store.
Corry J. Holt, 44, of New Castle allegedly provided false information on his background check application Dec. 1 when he attempted to purchase a .410-caliber shotgun for a Christmas present at Sportsman’s Supply on Freeport Road.
Police said when his information was entered into the Pennsylvania Instant Check system, he was denied the purchase.
Holt is charged with unlawfully attempting to buy a firearm, a felony, and making a false statement, a misdemeanor.
March 27 — Adam P. Bell, 37, of Chicora was charged with having a blood-alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit this month when he crashed his car into a ditch in Fairview Township.
The defendant was injured in the wreck that happened about 9:45 p.m. March 14 along railroad tracks on Hooker Road at South Street.
He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries and a blood draw. Toxicology result subsequently showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.223 percent.
In addition to DUI, he is charged with disregarding traffic lanes, careless driving and not wearing a seat belt.
7:40 p.m. March 25 — James R. Warrick, 42, of Oakland Township allegedly assaulted a man following a vehicular altercation in Summit Township.
Police said the victim told them that he was stopped at a stop sign at Bonniebrook and Great Belt roads when a car drove around him and then crossed in front of him, according to court documents.
Warrick, who was later identified as the driver of that vehicle subsequently “brake checked” the victim, nearly causing the victim to slide off the road.
At some point, Warrick got out of his car and approached the victim’s stopped pickup truck on Bonniebrook Road near Route 422.
“The defendant then punched the window out,” documents said, “then punched the victim three times in the face.”
The victim suffered a bloody nose and bruising and swelling to the face.
Police eventually spoke to Warrick, who denied punching the victim or the victim’s window.
He admitted he grabbed the window and it shattered, but only after the truck moved back. He also acknowledged “yelling at the victim,” documents said, for the victim’s unsafe driving.”
Warrick is charged with simple assault, harassment, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.
