Illegal gaming network raided in Butler County, elsewhere

The state attorney general’s office said more than 400 illegal gambling devices were seized from businesses in Western Pennsylvania, including in Butler County.

Attorney General Dave Sunday said Tuesday that agents seized the devices and filed corrupt organization charges against two companies that operate the machines

State police assisted attorney general gaming enforcement agents in March when they seized gaming machines from bars, gas stations and convenience stores in Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Cambria, Crawford, Indiana, Somerset, Venango, Erie, Washington, Armstrong and Westmoreland counties.

Felony corrupt organizations charges were filed against Buffalo Skills Games, Inc. and J.J. Amusement, Inc., which are owned and operated by John F. Conley, who has prior federal convictions for illegal gambling, according to Sunday.

“These devices were essentially slot machines dressed up as skill games,” Sunday said. “I commend our partners at the Pennsylvania State Police for helping disband a large-scale operation that netted a tremendous amount of illegal gambling profits.”
