A Marion Township man is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, with police saying he fired a pistol while a 6-year-old was present in the home.

Christopher T. Ray, 42, is being charged with felony endangering the welfare of a child, misdemeanor reckless endangerment and misdemeanor criminal mischief following an incident in May.

Harrisville police said they received a phone call June 18 from a caseworker at Butler Children & Youth Services regarding an incident on May 18 where shots were fired inside a home where a 6-year-old resides.

According to Butler Children & Youth Services, Ray was arguing with another person before pulling out a loaded pistol, pointing it at his head and threatening to kill himself. After he moved the firearm away, CYS said it discharged, went through a wall and into another room before going through the house’s ceiling.

A protection from abuse order was filed against Ray and a member of the Butler County Sheriff’s Office was present when nine firearms were removed from the home on June 1.

Police said Ray stated the pistol that was used in the incident was one of the firearms removed.

Ray’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
