2:46 a.m. Monday — Jackson R. Blakely, 19, of Summit Township was arrested after police found him with a stolen handgun on Mitchell Avenue.

Blakely was arraigned on felony charges of receiving stolen property and possession of a firearm without a concealed carry license, and later placed in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail.

Police said they came upon the defendant while conducting extensive patrols on the city’s west side due to a rash of reported vehicle break-ins. He appeared “nervous,” according to court documents, after officers stopped him walking northbound on Mitchell Avenue.

He was searched as a safety precaution for officers and found with a .380-caliber pistol in the right pocket of his sweat pants. A records check of the gun found that it was reported stolen Nov. 17 from a vehicle in Butler.

1:33 a.m. Saturday — Marshall Protzman, 28, of Butler swerved to avoid a deer on Route 422 east near Route 8 and struck the center median before traveling across both lanes and hitting the guardrail. He was not hurt, but his vehicle had to be towed.

The accident happened when the truck driver, Bruce Powell, 61, of New Brighton, Beaver County, was making a wide turn onto Shockey Lane and the other driver, Linda Nye, 68, of Renfrew was attempting to pass on the right. Both vehicles had to be towed.

9:10 a.m. Nov. 20 — Vehicles driven by Dennis L. Burry, 67, and James Cestrone, 74, both of Butler collided at New Castle and North Duffy roads. One of the vehicles had to be towed. No injuries were reported. Police cited Burry for failing to stop at a red light.

11:57 p.m. Nov. 3 — A Michigan man was arrested for drunken driving and resisting arrest following a reported crash on Kingston Avenue.

Police said they found the suspect, Bryce D. Labelle, 28, of Wilson, slumped over the center console of his sport utility vehicle in the grass front lawn at the Cranberry Highlands Golf Course.

The vehicle was running and officers yelled for Labelle to wake up, according to court documents. Police subsequently asked for his driver’s license and he handed them a business card.

The defendant refused to come out of the vehicle and perform field sobriety tests, police said. Officers had to pull him out of the car and wrestle him to the ground.

He continued to pull away his arms and clench his fingers to prevent police from placing him in handcuffs, documents said. One of the officers threatened to deploy his Taser before police eventually were able to cuff him.

But when officers stood him up, documents said, he began to “passively resist” by becoming “dead weight” for police. Officers had to carry him to a patrol car where he was laid down in the rear seat.

At the station, police had to carry him into the holding cell.

In addition to driving under the influence and resisting arrest, Labelle is charged with trespass by vehicle.

Nov. 21 — Jenica L. Dismuke, 21, of Ellwood City was charged with drunken driving stemming from a traffic stop earlier this month on Old Forge Road. Police said they stopped her about 2 a.m. after they noticed her car weaving in her lane of travel on New Castle Street.

Police noted her driver’s side light also was not working.

Dismuke acknowledged that she had been drinking and just left a Slippery Rock bar, according to court documents. She failed field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test at the scene indicated she had alcohol in her system.

A formal breath test at the Butler police station showed her blood alcohol level was 0.111 percent, documents said. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

She is charged with driving under the influence and driving without working rear lights.

Westcott initially denied drinking any alcohol that night but later admitted having consumed about four beers. He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test after failing field sobriety tests.

A blood test that showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.85 percent, documents said. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

Police said the vehicle’s rear wheels had a “dramatic tilt inward,” according to court documents.

During questioning at her vehicle, Copley told police that she was driving to a friend’s house but she did not know the friend’s last name. When asked for her driving information, she provided police with only expired registration and expired insurance cards.

Police subsequently had the vehicle towed because of safety concerns, documents said, over the wheels.

An inventory search of the van allegedly turned up four stamp bags of suspected heroin and other drug-related items.

Copley is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, driving a vehicle without insurance and without valid inspection.
