Monday — Scott R. Parish, 39, of Butler was charged with drugged driving stemming from a 6:06 p.m. Feb. 28 traffic stop on Route 8 near the 7-Eleven store in Penn Township.

Police said they stopped Parish’s van for having a license plate that was unreadable due to a dirt and salt buildup. The passenger side brake light also was not working.

While speaking to the suspect, according to court documents, the officer detected an “extremely strong” smell of marijuana.

Police noted that at one point Parish advised a woman, who was riding with him, to open a door to allow air into the van so a 1-year-old baby also in the van would not get sick presumably from the smell of marijuana.

The suspect failed field sobriety tests and later was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. A recent toxicology report showed the presence of THC, the intoxicating chemical found in marijuana, in Parish’s system.

In addition to driving under the influence of a controlled substance, police charged Parish with DUI, child endangerment, driving with a suspended license and driving without a license.
