Sunday — A vandal knocked over a port-a-john at the athletic field off South Cliff Street. The property, owned by Mr. John Portable Toilet Rental, was not damaged but the cleanup cost was estimated at $100.4:44 p.m. Saturday — Lorralee Opperman, 30, of Butler was arrested after allegedly shoplifting $120 in clothes and cosmetics from the Kmart store in Pullman Square. Opperman, who has two prior arrests for shoplifting including one at the same Kmart store, is charged with retail theft and trespass.Saturday — Nearly $200 was stolen from a home in a suspected overnight burglary in a house in the 500 block of West New Castle Street. The 88-year-old homeowner told police that he and his wife had gone to bed about 10 p.m. Friday and went they awoke the next morning they discovered the money gone.Missing from the man's money clip on the kitchen table was $150. Missing from his wife's purse that was hanging on the kitchen table was $45.Saturday — Two wallets were taken overnight from a vehicle in the 200 block of Federal Street. The wallets had an unspecified amount of money and miscellaneous cards.
8:15 p.m. Saturday — Wayne A. Philpot, 47, of Rimersburg was not hurt when he laid down his motorcycle to avoid a car that turned in front of him at Route 338 and Knox Road in Beaver Township. Philpot was not wearing a helmet.Austin D. Smith, 18, of Shippenville, who was driving the car, was cited for an unspecified traffic violation.
7:40 a.m. Wednesday — Two men were hurt in a three-vehicle wreck in Barkeyville. The crash happened when a car driven by a 16-year-old Parker girl rear-ended another car on the Interstate 80 off-ramp at exit 29.In turn, the other car, driven by Matthew L. Donaldson, 33, of Lisbon, Ohio, was pushed into the back of a minivan. Donaldson and his passenger, Paul H. Wynn, 32, of Bienna, Ohio, were taken to the Grove City Medical Center with minor injuries. Both men were wearing seat belts.The girl, who police did not identify, was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.
Saturday — A 44-year-old woman with special needs was reported missing after she failed to turn up at the Walmart at the Hilltop Plaza shopping center in East Franklin Township.Susan “Sue” Yoders was last seen at the store about 7:30 p.m. Saturday. She is described as 5 feet, 4 inches tall and 147 pounds. She has hazel eyes and brown, shoulder-length hair. She wears eyeglasses.She was last seen wearing a pink and white shirt, shorts and a fanny pack.Police said Yoders suffers from a medical condition that requires a special diet. Certain foods will make her seriously ill. Additionally, she is mentally impaired and functions on the level of an 8- to 13-year-old. Yoders is described as friendly.Anyone with information about her whereabouts is asked to call police at 724-543-2011, or 911.8:12 p.m. Friday — Jay A. Wiles, 61, of Kittanning swerved his sport utility vehicle to avoid two deer and crashed on Freeport Road just west of Beckett Road in North Buffalo Township. The SUV struck an embankment and rolled over, landing on its side.
7 p.m. Friday — Police captured two boys in Butler County about 13 hours after they escaped the George Junior Republic juvenile detention facility in Pine Township. The youths, a 16-year-old from Philadelphia and a 13-year-old from Stroudsburg, Monroe County, fled the facility shortly after 1 a.m. Troopers caught the pair in the area of Route 8 and Branchton Road in Slippery Rock Township.
