Buffalo Twp Police5:45 a.m. today — No one was injured in a pair of minor fender-benders on Buffalo Bridge on Route 28 in Buffalo Township, authorities said. Emergency crews blamed black ice for the accidents.State police and the volunteer fire department’s fire police assisted Buffalo Township police in shutting down one lane of traffic in each direction to allow for a PennDOT crew to salt and treat the road.All four lanes were open again by 6:40 a.m.
Butler Twp PoliceThursday — James F. Pyles, 25, of Butler was charged with drunken driving stemming from a traffic stop about 1 a.m. March 18 on Route 8 north. In addition to driving under the influence, Pyles is charged with careless driving and disregarding traffic lanes.
State Police, ButlerTuesday — Christopher Lee Matthews, 34, was arrested on felony assault charges stemming from a domestic dispute last year at his home on Sunbury Street in Fairview.Matthews is accused of punching his then 15-year-old stepson in the face during a family fight May 13, 2015, according to court documents. The teen was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a broken nose and facial fractures under his right eye.The boy eventually was taken to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment of injuries.Matthews drove away in a pickup truck before troopers got to the house. The next day, police filed charges against Matthews, but it was not immediately known why it took so long before he was arrested. A telephone call to the investigating officer was not returned.District Judge Sue Haggerty on Tuesday arraigned Matthews on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment and driving with a suspended license. He was placed in Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail following arraignment.
State Police, New Castle4:43 p.m. March 29 — John C. Paxton, 23, of Grove City last control of his Mack truck and it rolled onto its side on Route 19 at Cooperstown Road in Washington Township, Lawrence County. Paxton was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.
