Wednesday — Candace M. Rikal, 41, of Prospect was charged with bouncing a $260.64 check last year at Elliott’s Tire Service on East Cunningham Street.

Police said Rikal on Aug. 5 passed the check that was written on an account with insufficient funds. The business made a number of calls and sent two certified letters to the defendant seeking payment but to no avail, according to court documents.

Rikal is charged with bad checks.

10:09 p.m. March 26 — Stephanie M. O’Malley, 23, of Adams Township was found with a suspected marijuana pipe following a traffic stop at Pillow Street and South Sixth Avenue. She is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

5:47 p.m. March 21 — Robert Spencer, 43, of Summit Township was arrested for drunken driving on Zeigler Avenue,

Police said they got a call for a suspicious vehicle parked outside a home on the 200 block of Heim Avenue. A short time later, an officer noticed Spencer parked there in a pickup truck.

The defendant began traveling toward Zeigler Avenue and was pulled over on the 500 block of Zeigler, according to court documents.

Spencer admitted he had been drinking at as nearby social club, police said, and he later failed field sobriety tests. He was taken for a breath test that indicated his blood-alcohol was 0.245 percent, more than three times the state’s 0.08 percent legal limit.

He is charged with driving under the influence.

Tuesday — Victoria A. Duffy, 24, of Butler was charged in connection with a shoplifting incident March 10 at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. Police said she tried to take $102.15 in merchandise through the self-checkout registers without paying for the items.

She was cited for a summary count of retail theft.

[naviga:h3]Grove City Police[/naviga:h3]

12:45 p.m. Tuesday — One person was hurt when vehicles driven by Melissa M. Spring, 39, of Grove City and Thomas Lah, 51, of Adams Township collided at East Main and South Broad streets.

Spring was taken to Grove City Medical Center with unknown injuries. Both vehicles had to be towed. Police cited Spring for failing to stop at a red light.

March 26 — Janice L. Cercone, 36, of Butler was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs stemming from a traffic stop last month on Route 68 at Textor School Road.

Police said they pulled over Cercone about 10 p.m. March 2 after getting a call for a reckless driver. She admitted drinking alcohol earlier, according to court documents, and subsequently failed field sobriety testing.

She was taken to UPMC Passavant in Cranberry Township for a blood test. Toxicology reports showed she had a blood-alcohol level of 0.176 percent, more than twice the state’s 0.08 percent legal limit. She also tested positive for benzoylecgonine, which is a metabolite of cocaine, and marijuana.

Cercone is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, DUI, driving with a blood-alcohol level of 0.02 percent or greater while under license suspension, and disregarding traffic lanes.

[naviga:h3]Slippery Rock University Police[/naviga:h3]

March 22 — Brandon M. Harvey, 20, of Erie was charged with drugged driving stemming from a traffic stop last month in Slippery Rock. He was stopped about 9 p.m. March 6 on Kiester Road for not having his headlights on.

Harvey initially denied having smoked marijuana, according to court documents, but later allegedly admitted having two blunts that afternoon. He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test, which confirmed he had marijuana in his system.

In addition to driving under the influence of a controlled substance, Harvey is charged with a lighting violation.

March 22 — Brandon J. Anderson, 33, of Buffalo Township was charged with submitting a state license to carry firearms application March 8 that included answers about his criminal record that were not truthful and were rejected by the Pennsylvania Instant Check System that is run by the state police.

Anderson is charged with unsworn falsification to authorities.

March 26 — Police are investigating the theft of a wedding band from the jewelry department of the JCPenney store in Clearview Mall in Center Township. Police said a ring went missing between 5:30 p.m. March 25 and 7 p.m. March 26. Anyone with information is asked to call state police at 724-284-8100.

3:48 p.m. March 23 — Daryle L. Patterson, 44, of Norfolk, Va., faces charges for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop. Police said Patterson was pulled over on Route 422 in Muddy Creek Township for speeding and discovered contraband upon further investigation.

March 22 — Jennifer R. Blystone, 34, of Butler was charged with drugged driving after being stopped in January during a traffic safety checkpoint in Summit Township.

She denied taking any illegal drugs, according to court documents, but she acknowledged being on Suboxone, commonly prescribed to treat opioid addiction, police said.

A series of field sobriety tests indicated Blystone was impaired. A subsequent evaluation by a drug recognition expert confirmed that suspicion, police said.

She was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test, which showed she had marijuana, benzoylecgonine and norbuprenorphine in her system. Benzoylecgonine is a metabolite of cocaine and norbuprenorphine is a metabolite of buprenorphine, which is the active ingredient in Suboxone.

Blystone is charged with multiple counts of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license-DUI related, driving a vehicle without valid inspection, careless driving and not wearing a seat belt.

March 22 — Police charged Tammy Jo Kachik, 35, of Grove City with drunken driving in connection with a traffic stop in February in Center Township. Police said they stopped her for weaving and speeding on Route 8 in a pickup truck.

A preliminary breath test device indicated Kachik had alcohol in her system, according to court documents, and she failed one field sobriety test. She refused to follow instructions for other field testing, police said.

Police took her to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test that showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.102 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

In addition to driving under the influence, Kachik is charged with failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.

March 21 — Jesse J. Rudish, 36, of Slippery Rock was charged with having marijuana and other contraband at a home in Slippery Rock Township.

Police said they were called to the 500 block of Kiester Road for a business owner attempting to recover a work vehicle from a recently fired employee. The owner said he smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and noticed drug paraphernalia in the driver’s door, according to court documents.

A search of the vehicle turned up about 9 grams of suspected marijuana and two smoking pipes.

Rudish admitted that he was the only one to drive the work vehicle for the past four months, documents said. He also allegedly admitted the illegal items were his.

He is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

7:45 p.m. March 19 — Haley S. Mott, 24, of Butler was found with suspected marijuana after being pulled over while driving with a suspended license on Interstate 79 in Muddy Creek Township, police said.

Police said they searched Mott’s car because they smelled marijuana coming from it. A baggie containing about one-quarter ounce of suspected marijuana was found in the trunk, documents said. She is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and driving during suspension.

2:53 a.m. March 17 — Cody R. Southworth, 27, of Clearfield Township was arrested for DUI after he was stopped for speeding on Old Route 422 east just north of Route 422 in Summit Township.

He failed field sobriety tests and was taken for a breath test, which showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.145 percent, according to court documents.

In addition to DUI, Southworth is charged with speeding, driving too fast for conditions and careless driving.

6:07 p.m. March 17 — Douglas G. Andre, 25, of Chicora, who when driving a car for a pizza shop, is accused of striking a vehicle on Route 68 in Donegal Township, and not stopping.

He is charged with hit-and-run, failing to stop and give information or render aid after an accident, failing to immediately notify police of an accident, driving a vehicle without valid inspection, disobeying traffic control devices, failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes, driving at an unsafe speed, careless driving and reckless driving.
