Butler PoliceMonday — Police charged Melissa Downs-Ulisky, 21, of Washington Township with using a woman’s misplaced electronic-benefits transfer card to make five purchases totaling $367.34. The owner told police she lost her welfare card Oct. 3 on Main Street. She later checked the card’s balance and discovered several purchases had been made on it since it was lost.Downs-Ulisky, who admitted using the woman’s card, according to court documents, is charged with access device fraud.Wednesday — A thief stole a Tom Tom global positioning system device from a vehicle parked in the 300 block of East Locust Street. The GPS device is valued at $150.
Butler Township PoliceThursday — Police filed a felony theft by deception charge against Jason W. Sexton, 40, of Butler stemming from a roofing job he was paid last year to complete but never even started.Joseph Coulter on Nov. 3, 2010, paid Sexton $2,200 for roof work on a rental property on Penn Avenue in Lyndora. Sexton deposited Coulter’s check, but through the winter, the work was not done.The suspect blamed “adverse weather conditions” for the delay, according to court documents. But when summer arrived, the work still had not begun and no materials were delivered to the job site. Coulter told police he tried calling Sexton but those calls were not returned.Police said they contacted the suspect, who told them he had a heart problem in May and was laid up. Sexton recovered but then it rained all the time and he could not do the work, documents said.
Grove City Police9 p.m. Saturday — Aaron Charles Taylor, 24, of Grove City, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance at College Avenue at Elm Street.Saturday — An unknown gunman shot out a front window at Filer’s Plumbing & Heating in the 500 block of North Broad Street. Police suspect the vandalism happened in the early morning when the business was closed.An employee discovered the damage upon reporting to work Saturday morning. The investigation is ongoing and police are asking for anyone who may have information regarding this incident to contact them at 724-458-7925.
State Police, Butler4:10 p.m. Sunday — Cory A. Williams, 25, of Butler Township was caught allegedly shoplifting $275 worth of clothing at the Boscov’s store in the Clearview Mall, Center Township. Williams is charged with retail theft.8:25 a.m. Saturday — Jeffrey A. McPherson, 44, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after his sport utility struck a tree along Valencia Road in Forward Township.Saturday — Robert J. Wiles, 22, of Washington Township is accused of assaulting 65-year-old Kenneth Skomo of North Washington in the area of Blair Road in Venango Township. The altercation occurred after Skomo told Wiles he was no longer permitted to hunt on the older man’s property. Wiles is charged with simple assault.Thursday — An unknown thief stole a Mazda 2-liter, 4-cylinder engine and a 5-speed transmission from a garage on Route 228 in Clinton Township. The theft happened between Sept. 28 and Thursday.
State Police, Mercer12:20 a.m. Saturday — A car driven by John J. Podleyon, 32, of Grove City struck a deer on Route 58 just west of Hall Road in Findley Township.
State Police, New CastleMonday — Two storm drain grates were stolen from the side of Frew Mill Road at the Kennedy Mills bridge in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. The grates, owned by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, were taken Sunday or Monday.
