Butler Police5:23 p.m. Monday — Colleen R. Cunningham, 34, of Butler was arrested after allegedly shoplifting about $200 worth of merchandise at the Dollar General on North Main Street. Cunningham is accused of walking out of the store with a shopping cart full of items, according to court documents.Cunningham, who has three prior shoplifting convictions, was arraigned on a felony count of retail theft and placed in the Butler County Prison on $2,500 bail.Normally a summary or misdemeanor offense, retail theft is upgraded by state law to a third-degree felony regardless of the stolen property’s value when a defendant has at least two prior arrests for the same crime.5:05 p.m. Monday — A car driven by Marcy L. Ligon, 50, of Lower Burrell, Westmoreland County, struck the rear of a car on Center Avenue. The other driver, Renee W. Geibel, 18, of Harmony was stopped to make a turn onto Zeigler Avenue.4:05 p.m. Monday — Rickeal L. Wallace, 40, of Butler was hurt when a car rear-ended her car that was stopped behind several other vehicles at a red light on Chestnut Street. Wallace suffered unknown injuries. Dylan C. Mascellino, 20, of Butler was the other driver.

Butler Township Police3:30 a.m. Monday — Thomas K. Smith II, 48, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after he crashed into the side of the car wash at Baglier Buick on Route 8 South.In addition to DUI, Smith is charged with public drunkenness and harassment.11:30 p.m. Sunday — David L. Madden, 50, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of DUI on Route 422.

Middlesex Twp. Police State Police, ButlerMonday — Prestige 1 Auto, a Donegal Township car dealer, was issued several citations for failing to pay required taxes and fees and failing to submit a title application in a timely manner to the state Department of Transportation. The violations occurred between June 6 and July 3.12:33 a.m. Saturday — An unknown man punched another man in the mouth during an altercation at The Heights apartment complex on Woodbridge Drive in Slippery Rock Township. The alleged victim, 22-year-old Nicholas D. Phillips of Aurora, Ohio, lost a tooth and suffered a cut lip.The suspect, a black man, fled the scene before police got there.About the same time at the same apartment complex, police cited four young men with underage drinking. Those cited were Alexander J. Bell, 20, of Lawrence, Pa.; Graeme R. Frye, 20, of Stow, Ohio; and Christopher Gilmore, 18, and John L. Gilmore, 20, both of South Park, Allegheny County.State Police, Mercer2:24 p.m. Friday — Jacob R. Auerbach, 23, of Sandy Lake lost control of his car after falling asleep and struck a utility pole along Route 358 in Sandy Lake Township. The car rolled over twice and landed on its wheels in a yard. Auerbach, who was not wearing a seat belt, was not injured. Police said he was cited for a lane violation.

Monday — Police filed criminal and traffic charges against Daniel Wikert, 20, of Clinton Township stemming from a high-speed chase about 5 p.m. on Route 8.

Wikert was driving a motorcycle “erratically” and “at a high rate of speed” when it passed two police cars, according to court documents. Officers in both cars activated their emergency lights but Wikert did not stop. The cycle traveled through the intersection at Glade Mill Road before turning off Route 8.

Police a short time later found the cycle in the driveway at a business. But the suspect was gone. Officers used the license plate to identify the defendant.

Wikert is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police, a misdemeanor. He also was cited for driving without a motorcycle license, driving with required protective headgear and careless driving.
