10:20 p.m. Friday — Eric K. Keating, 40, of Butler was arrested after he allegedly pointed a loaded 9 mm handgun at three youths, ages 13, 16 and 17, on College Street. Several witnesses saw the suspect with the pistol.Police caught Keating hiding in weeds in the area of the 400 block of East Jefferson Street, according to court documents. He had the gun in a front pants pocket.Keating was arraigned on three counts each of simple assault and reckless endangerment, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $15,000 bail.

Wednesday — Police charged John C. Sassone, 57, of Butler with drunken driving stemming from a Sept. 2 accident. Sassone is accused of forcing another vehicle off North Duffy Road about 3 p.m.In addition to driving under the influence, police cited Sassone for reckless driving, following too closely to another vehicle and improperly passing another vehicle.Tuesday — Stephen A. Haley, 26, of Butler was charged with drugged driving in connection with a hit-and-run crash earlier this month on New Castle Road.Police suspect Haley was impaired about 1:50 p.m. Sept. 7 when his minivan struck a guardrail in front of Alameda Plaza. The suspect drove away but officers stopped him a short time later in front of Butler Commons on New Castle Road.Haley was arrested after failing several field sobriety tests. Officers also found four stamp bags of suspected heroin and two syringes in his van, according to court documents.Police said Haley admitted he had snorted two bags of heroin and taken two prescribed pills of the anti-anxiety medication clonazepam. He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. A toxicology report, which police received Friday, confirmed his admission.Haley, in addition to driving under the influence of a controlled substance, is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.Additionally, police cited him for hit-and-run, failing to stop and render aid after an accident, driving at an unsafe speed, reckless driving and disregarding traffic lanes.

4:45 a.m. today — A car driven by Kody M. Troutman, 24, of Sagamore rear-ended a pickup truck on Route 42 at the Graff Bridge in North Buffalo Township. Police said Troutman was cited for following too closely to another vehicle. James F. Reeseman, 62, of Kittanning was driving the pickup.11:46 p.m. Wednesday — An unknown man abandoned a dog on the side of a road in East Franklin Township. A caller reported seeing the man stop his vehicle and leave the dog behind on Wyble Road.The dog, which was not wearing a collar, was taken to Orphans of the Storm no-kill animal shelter in Kittanning.Wednesday — Several animal traps, fishing poles, a weed-eater and tree stand were reported stolen from a home on Line Back Hill in Templeton.11:42 p.m. Monday — Thomas John Bowser, 44, of Kittanning was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after he crashed his vehicle on Route 268 in East Franklin Township.

Sept. 11 — Someone damaged two mailboxes and stole a custom-made metal sign on Sandy Lane in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. The vandalism and theft happened Sept. 10 or 11.
